Book Review- Moon Spells

One of the common interests between Shannon and I are books. I am pretty sure if we could take a week off from everything and just read we would easily finish a book a day. Oh now that I think of it, that sounds like a great idea. So when Shannon came up with  the idea for a book review week we both jumped at the chance to find books that we could talk about. Problem was narrowing it down to two each. Don't worry we'll do more down the road.

So today I get to talk about a book that I never thought I would fall in love with. I never realized that the moon could be such a big influence in our lives. I really wanted to learn more. So I picked up Moon Spells from Diane Ahlquist. This book does exactly what the tagline says: "How to use the phases of the moon to get what you want".

Before this book even begins to focus on the different spells you can do during the different phases, it teaches you how to prepare for the spell, when to prepare, the different phases and so much more. Before reading this book I did not know how much went into each spell. It's not about just chanting and  putting your intentions out into the universe. It's about making the most of the moon phase and connecting with the moon and the elements.

Don't worry if wicca is not your thing, and you just want to have a better understanding of things and how to meditate with the moon's energy. This book teaches you all of it. I am not a wicca, and I can really appreciate this book. I have always loved to lay outside under a full moon and now I can do that as well as set certain intentions to make my life better.

Each spell tells you what materials you need, which candles to use, which direction to face, what moon phase to do it in, and what gemstones and incense to use if you would like. It spells out everything for you. You really can't go wrong with this book.

If you are looking for a good book that breaks things down and teaches things without sounding like an encyclopedia then this book is definitely for you.  Have you read it? What did you think?

Doreen Virtue: Don’t Let Anything Dull Your Sparkle

Doreen Virtue is someone that I really respect. It all started on my first trip to a crystal shop when a Charkra meditation CD caught my eye. I bought it, loved it, and used it often. Before long, I was ordering Doreen’s books online, picking up oracle card decks of hers, and checking out her website. When I saw her book, “Don’t Let Anything Dull Your Sparkle: How to Break Free of Negativity and Drama,” on a random shopping trip…I practically lunged for it. I was so excited to start reading.

It didn’t take long for me to make my way through the book. Unfortunately, the content didn’t really connect with me or my life. The main focus of the book is on histamine. Her idea is that people are unhappy, negative, and craving dramatic situations due to a histamine imbalance. The book goes on to list all of the ways to cut back or eliminate histamine from your diet, your home, and your life. Useful? Sure. Yet something about this just didn’t ring true for me.

Perhaps this is because I do not crave drama. At all. So all of the talk about histamines increasing our need to live in a state of drama and chaos did not mesh with my life story. It also touched on issues of trauma and PTSD, which again, was not something that really resonated with me. In short, this book didn’t give me what I was hoping it would. I was expecting a self-help book that provided advice on how to live a more positive, “sparkly” life. There were moments that were enjoyable…. but overall, this was a letdown.

Doreen has written a ton of fantastic books on all sorts of topics. However, “Don’t Let Anything Dull Your Sparkle” was not my favourite. I wasn’t upset to have read it but it isn’t one that I will reach for again and again.

Have you read this book? What did you think of it?

How I Became a More Positive Person

The world is not a perfect place. Despite the wonderful, amazing people on this planet…there is also an awful lot of hatred. There is selfishness, misplaced anger, and uninformed opinions. There is pain, misery, and loneliness. How, in the midst of all of this upheaval, can we find peace? Hope? Positivity? It seems impossible sometimes.

I have not always been a positive person. There was a time in my life when my mind instantly went to the negative. (Whether it was about myself or a specific situation.) Over time, that has changed. I’ve worked hard to learn more about who I am and to appreciate the big and small victories. I feel immensely grateful for the life I have and the people in it.

A few months back…my focus on the positive took a serious stumble. Why? I have always tried to be informed, conscious, and aware of what is happening in the world of politics. Then it happened. A man who symbolizes everything I am against (hatred, separation, and fear) obtained a position of power. It was a terrifying time. The days following that fateful election were extremely difficult for me. I was depressed, scared, and alone. Suddenly, positivity felt impossible.

I was crumbling under the weight of social upheaval. Then something happened. My attitude shifted. I made a conscious decision to find something good within the bad. I looked for ways to give back, places to donate, organizations to support, and people to connect with. I decided to turn this nightmare into a fight for a better world.

Becoming a more positive person is a process. One that I actively work on. I have been working on my thoughts (focusing on positivity, reciting affirmations, mantras, and so on), living in abundance (by practising gratitude and appreciation), and sharing my passions with the world (through my writing and creative pursuits). They all contribute to a happier and healthier me.

It isn’t always easy to be positive. Especially when headlines and news reports are devastating. But there are a few things that I know for certain: Love conquers fear. Positivity trumps hate.

Still Fighting to Change The World

So this week Shannon and I decided to do something a little different. We both have excellent personal stories to share that suit this theme really well. We hope you enjoy!

I will say this. The world has made some tremendous strides when it comes to judgement, but we have miles to go before the world accepts everyone. We look at people every day and make negative judgements based on skin colour, height, colour of hair, piercings or clothing. Sometimes we forget to look at the person and see them for who they are rather than how they look.

I am not a person who is oblivious to racism through out the world. I am not a target for it, but it blows my mind and angers me to see that people are still getting persecuted for their skin colour.  How can it be 2017 and it be still socially acceptable for people to make comments against someone's colour or religion?

I am grateful to live in the country I do. Racism is not something that is blatantly obvious, but it does happen from time to time. When it does it makes my blood boil. This happened this past week and rather than letting my anger get the best of me and give this gentleman  a piece of my mind, with a few choice words, I decided to make this a positive moment and hopefully it changes the world just a little.  I decided to bring this to Cosmic Positivity and hopefully all of  you guys will share it.

So here are a few tips that I am working on in order to make the world a bit better. They may only make a tiny difference, but a tiny difference is better than no difference at all. Plus Rome wasn't built in a day.

  1. Don't let your rage get the best of you. There is no point. I struggle with this one specifically. Unfortunately you're probably just going to add fuel to the fire. You may think that this is a passive approach, but honestly losing your mind on someone is probably not going to give you the positive outcome you're hoping for.
  2. Send positive vibes out into the universe. You may think that good thoughts and intentions will not change the world. Maybe you're right, but what if everyone in this world sent good thoughts out into the universe. That much power can create some awesome ripples. Why should we let negativity control us? Just some food for thought.
  3. Burn some sage. Sage is a beautiful tool to help clear the negative energy around you. You may not be able to sage the negativity out of someone else, but you can certainly do it to yourself. Remember you can only control yourself. Don't let negativity get you down.
  4. Teach people to be good people. We have the world at our fingertips. We have the ability to connect to thousands and even millions of people anytime we go on social media. We have younger and even older generations that need to be shown that there is a better way. Put your POSITIVE message out there and let it be carried out. Don't think that your voice is too small. If you can be a positive role model to even one person than that is one more person than you had the day before.
Racism, judgement, bullies and negativity do not have a place in this world. Let's all stand together and set an example. We can all do our part to change the world. What have you done lately to change the world?

Catch Those Moments Of Joy

Everyone (myself included) has those days where it is ridiculously easy to focus on the negative. "Work sucks", "My coworkers are awful", "Ugghh I can't deal with all this stress". Does this sound familiar? Yeah I have been there too.

I am so glad we focused this week on joy and positivity. The world is sometimes a cruel and unfair place, but it is not entirely made up of negative people or horrible actions. We all know that we can only control our actions. Unfortunately we can not make everyone do what we want. So today let's talk about finding things to be joyful about.

Find some time to hang out by yourself. It doesn't have to be in a meditative state unless you want it to be. Sit in your car, or take yourself out for dinner. Just do something that will give you a few moments to sit and think without being distracted by things going on in your life.

Think about what happened to you this month, week or even today. Go ahead and think about the negative stuff. You know you're going to anyways.  Think about what went wrong at work. Think about the person you argued with. Think about all the negative crap that happened. Don't worry I am getting to the positive stuff in a moment.

Have you thought about all the negative? Ok good. Now stop. You have now put enough energy into the bad. Put that energy and effort into thinking about the good stuff. I don't want to hear " Nothing good happened". Something good happened and you may not be receptive to it yet, because it is easier to think about the negative. I get it, but you can't go through life thinking about only the stuff that got you down.

If you are having trouble thinking about what was a joyful moment in your life then try thinking about one of these topics:

  • Your hobbies. Think of something that interests you. Did you get to spend time working on it? Did you have fun? Does it make you smile? If the answer is yes to these questions than this is a hobby for you to continue focusing on. It is a bright light in your world.
  • The people around you. Sit there and focus on the different people in your life. Did someone say something or do something to make you laugh? Maybe a heartfelt text came through. Personal interaction is important. Don't always focus on the people who upset you. Work on thinking about the person who made you smile.
  • The future. Sometimes the future is scary. Sometimes it's fantastic. Whatever  it is, it is yours for the taking. You need to decide what to look forward to. Is it a new job? New family member? New relationship? Trip? Whatever it is I hope it puts a smile on your face.

Don't think that I have never been in a depressed state or had some rough days. They are the worst, but if you don't try to get yourself out of them then you will miss all the joyful moments in life. Is that what you want?

Positive Affirmations For a Life of Joy

Happiness is something that should come easily…though it rarely seems to. So much of our life is focused on what comes next. Whether that is a promotion at work, buying a home, or starting a family, many of us live in the future rather than the present moment. In my opinion, that mentality robs us of joy. It sets up our current existence as not good enough.

In order to overcome this obstacle, it is essential that we live with our eyes open. These positive affirmations will help you practise appreciation and self-love. Before long, you will be living a life overflowing with joy and gratitude.

  • Nothing in this world is impossible. Happiness is always within reach.
  • I have the power to make my world joyful. I choose to do so…and to share that joy with everyone in my life.
  • My heart is open to positive experiences and a joyful state of being.
  • Today, I will do more of what I love. I will honour my passions, my creativity, and my true self.
  • I see beauty in everything around me. I laugh, smile, and feel blessed to be alive and aware in this moment.
  • Every day, I learn more about myself. Every day, I love myself a little more.
  • I recognize that there is much to be grateful for. Each blessing in my life brings me an endless abundance of joy.
  • The sun doesn’t have to shine to make me smile. Light radiates from within me!
  • I live a life without resentment or guilt.
  • I am a happy, positive person, with gifts to share.

Allow these positive affirmations to infuse your everyday life with joy. Recite them during stressful times, first thing in the morning, or whenever you need a pick me up.

What is your favourite positive affirmation? Share it in the comment section below!

Crystals To Get You Through The Tough Times

Do you crave joy and happiness in the darkest of situations? Do you want to banish sadness? Do you think a crystal will help? Ok if you asked me that last question a couple of years ago I probably would've said no. I am not saying I believe that crystals fix all of life's problems, but the right crystal can help any mood.

Since this week is all about joy and positivity we thought it would be a great idea to talk about what crystals you should have to help bring you any sort of positive feelings. Let's get to it!

  • Citrine- This gorgeous stone is going to give you an abundance of positivity and happiness. How could it not? Yellow is a positive and uplifting colour so it seems right that it should be the colour of an abundance stone.
  • Rose Quartz- The stone is all about love. Not only love in relationships, but love for yourself. In a bad mood or having some doubts about yourself? Take out your rose quartz and focus on it. This will help to put you in a better mood. Go ahead and try!
  • Quartz- Is there a lot of negativity around you or a place lately? By using a quartz crystal you are taking that energy and getting rid of it. No one needs negativity in their lives.
  • Amethyst- This crystal will protect you from negativity, anxiety and sadness. This stone will help to balance your emotions and is great to have around in a time of grief.
  • Tiger's Eye- Dealing with some self esteem issues lately? This is the stone for you! In order to bring out your confidence this is the stone to make you project an inner strength you never even knew about it. Trust me this is the stone to get you through the self doubting moments you may be going through.
There are so many other stones to help bring your mood up. It's all about finding them and using them to your advantage. They will work with you. Give them a try the  next time you are going through a tough time.

Coping Mechanisms: Simple Ways to Brighten Your Day

Bad days happen. Sometimes, unexpected events catch us off guard, small frustrations pile up, and major life changes knock the wind out of us. That can send us on a downward spiral…seeing only the negative. If you’re having a bad day at work or just need to infuse your day with a little joy, keep reading. These coping mechanisms will help you brighten your day in no time!

Pay It Forward. There is no easier way to feel better than to make someone else feel better. Doing something simple, like giving a compliment, smiling to a stranger, or saying thank you can make a world of difference in another person’s life. Whenever you are feeling down – focus on small acts of kindness. You will instantly feel better.

Write Out a Gratitude List. It is amazing how often we forget how rich our lives are. This makes it especially important to work on gratitude. Take a few minutes to write out five to ten things that you are grateful for right now. (Your list may include loved ones, having a job that helps you pay the bills, a new book you’re reading, or the endless opportunities that are available to you.) By the time you finish? You’ll be smiling.

Spend Time Outdoors. Not all of us love to be outside. Personally, I am more of an “indoor cat.” I prefer to be inside rather than outside. However, studies have proven that fifteen to twenty minutes in a natural setting can boost your mood. So, go for a walk after dinner or eat your lunch outside. It doesn’t matter what you do…. just make sure you set aside a little time to connect to nature.

Don’t Be Afraid to Smile. You may not be in a smiling mood. That’s okay! Faking a smile is just as effective as a genuine smile. This simple act has actually been found to reduce stress levels. To feel better (and brighten your day), try smiling to yourself. Before long your problems will seem a little more manageable.

In the words of John Denver, “Some days are diamonds. Some days are stones.” Whether your day is a diamond or a stone…you can still enjoy life. Try any one of these coping mechanisms the next time you feel low!

Gridding: Let's Dig A Little Deeper

There is something so magical about crystal grids. You can feel the power and energy they give off. When you are wanting to put some good vibes and intentions out into the world, a crystal grid is the way to go. Shannon wrote a fantastic piece on grid basics which you can check out here. Today I would like to dive a little deeper with them. No matter the information I give you or anyone gives you remember this before anything else:
Go with your intuition.
No matter what any one tells you, go with your gut when it comes to choosing the crystals you want to work with. No one knows better than you when it comes to which stones work best for you. Now if you still want to learn about gridding, then keep reading!
Ok so you have your crystals and your cloth ready to go. Now what? Well find a location that will be perfect for the grid. You will want to get the negative energy out of the area, before setting your intention. This is very important since you want to give your intentions the best possible chance to manifest itself. You can use white sage in order to clear the area of any and all negative energy.

When choosing your centre crystal, a big stone is perfect. If you can, try to go with clear quartz crystals. They amplify the energy of the grid. If you can get one with a point even better.

Certain crystals work well with certain intentions. For your next grid try one of these crystal combinations:

Green Aveturine

Rose Quartz

Tiger's Eye

Blue Lace Agate
Blue Calcite

There are so many different combinations depending on what your intention is. Remember to write your intention and place it under the centre crystal. Also while setting up the grid you need to be on your intentions. That will help to bring the energy to your grid.

Before you start to meditate with your grid take a pointed clear quartz crystal and draw a line connecting the crystals. This is to help activate the grid. Now your grid is really to work with you. Have some fun with it!

Do you have any grids around your home? Do you enjoy working with them? Let us know what you think in the comment section below!

4 Ways to Cleanse Your Crystals

There was so much I didn’t know. When I first started using crystals, the idea of cleansing them never occurred to me. It wasn’t until Amanda mentioned it during our first trip to The Rock Store that I thought about this important ritual. The realization that there was so much for me to learn was both thrilling and terrifying. Are you just getting started? Looking for a new way to cleanse your crystals? Here are four ways to remove negative energies from your beloved stones.

Why You Need to Cleanse Crystals. As you probably know, crystals hold and amplify energy. This is true of both positive and negative energies. So, if your stone belonged to another person, is a new purchase, or just doesn’t feel quite right…. it might be time to cleanse it of any lingering energies.

Four Ways to Cleanse Your Crystals:
  1. Smudge Them With White Sage. One of my favourite (and most used) methods of cleansing is to use white sage. You can pick this up at any spiritual shop or order it online. It is inexpensive and effective! Simply burn the end of the sage bundle and hold the crystal in the smoke for a minute or two. To re-energize your stone, place it on a windowsill so it can absorb energy from the sun and moon.
  2. Make Use of the Sun and Moon. Speaking of the sun and the moon…. this is another simple way to cleanse your crystals. Put them in a spot where they will be exposed to the sun and moon (this will work even if the sun is not shining). Leave them for twenty-four hours. Keep in mind that not all stones should be cleansed this way. Certain crystal colours can fade in sunlight, so look it up beforehand!
  3. Use Water to Your Advantage. Running water (salt water is another method that is commonly used) is a simple way to cleanse and re-energize your collection of crystals. Place your stones in a small container and let the water run over them. Not everything can be cleansed this way, though. Crystals like selenite can dissolve in water, so do a quick search prior to your cleansing ritual.
  4. Cleanse Using Your Positive Intentions. The last method on this list is one that I like as well. Though, it is not for everyone. I personally believe that both intention is the key when it comes to spiritual work. If you believe the same…. ask the Universe to cleanse your crystals of any negative energy. Place the crystals in front of you and focus on your positive intentions.
These cleansing methods are not the only ways to remove negative energy from your crystals. There are many more to consider, but these are a great place to start. Let us know…. which method do you prefer?

New And Full Moon Rituals: The Basics

Do you ever look up at the sky at night  and just feel the energy of the moon? She is so beautiful and so powerful that you can't help, but be in awe of her.  Each moon phase allows for a different type of ritual, which I am excited to talk about today. There are 8 phases to be exact, but I want to focus on 2- the new moon and the full moon. There is so much that goes into a moon ritual, that I couldn't possibly get into all of it today. Down the road hopefully we will dive more into it. Today let's focus on the basics and what these two moon phases are good for.

New Moon Phase- Focusing on the word 'new', this cycle is all about focusing on new beginnings, new endeavors, and new relationships. This is the perfect time to make positive changes in your life, search for opportunities, and come up with great ideas. Focus on what you want to manifest for the month, write it all down on a piece of paper, light a candle and then meditate. After you do this make sure to keep this list in your house.

Charging Crystals- You can put your crystals out in this phase to soak up the moon's energy. This will help to charge crystals  and they will help your new beginnings, and bring confidence and hope to your life. Once you have cleared and charged your crystals make sure you program them to make them work with you.

Spells- If you are into spells, then doing them during the moon phases is perfect. If you want to do a spell during the New Moon Phase then the following spells are the best to do:
  • Spells for the happiness of others
  • Love spells
  • Love-binding
  • Starting a new business spell
  • Job Seeking Spell
  • Easy Childbirth spell
Full Moon Phase- A full moon is beautiful and powerful. During her time in the sky you should be focusing on  perfecting ideas or renewing commitments to people or projects. Check in on your manifestion list, appreciate what has been manifested and just remember that not everything happens right away. Sometimes it takes a bit of time.  After, bury the list in the ground and thank the moon for everything she has provided.

Charging Crystals- Crystals charged during this phase helps you to achieve the things you wanted to manifest. Remember after charging your crystals you need to program them.

Spells- The following spells are great to do during a Full Moon Phase:
  • Love spells
  • Love-binding
  • Attracting a lover
  • Past life connection spells
  • Fertility Spell
  • Easy Childbirth spell
  • Seeking your purpose in life
  • Spells for divine messages
There are some common items that you can use during any moon ritual. Here are just a few:
  • Candles
  • Crystals
  • Incense
  • Music
The moon phases can help a lot of rituals to manifest things in your life. It is definitely worth while to do the research. Do you like to do any rituals with the moon? Let us know in the comment section below.

How to Start Gridding: A Guide For Beginners

There are many aspects of crystal therapy that are complex and even a little intimidating. Especially the first time you dip your toes into the preverbal waters. When I first decided to create my own crystal grid (I was inspired by Amanda as well as my favourite ASMR creator, Gentle Whispering ASMR) it was terrifying. What were the rules? Would I do it wrong? I was so worried about making a mistake that it almost stopped me from creating a crystal grid of my own. Thankfully, I pushed through.

Feeling nervous about it all? Not sure where to begin? Here are some super simple tips to take the worry out of crystal gridding.

What Is a Crystal Grid? Before you learn anything else, it is important to understand what this gridding thing is all about. Basically, crystals (especially when used together) amplify energy. Your grid's positive energy can help manifest the intentions you set.

The One and Only Rule To Remember. When it comes to gridding, some people have a ton of different rules, regulations, and expectations. I have only one: do not focus on negativity. Your intentions should never be to hurt another person...or for someone else to fail so you can succeed. Make this a positive space!

What You Need:
  • Something to place your crystals on, like a blanket, a piece of wood, or a cloth.
  • Crystals (any shape and size will do but you want one larger or more unique stone for the centre of your grid).
  • A piece of paper to write down your intentions.
Step-by-Step Guide:
  • Start by writing down your intentions on a piece of paper. They may be related to money, your career, relationships, health, and so on. Write them down and focus your energy on those intentions. Imagine how it would be if those dreams and intentions became real. Feel it. Dream it. Believe it.
  • Create your grid by laying down the cloth (or whatever you choose as your base) over top of your written intentions. Then place your larger, more unique stone in the centre. Place your smaller stones around the larger stone. This can be done in any shape and in any order. Trust your gut. If a specific stone calls to you…use it!
  • Activate your grid by meditating and thinking about your intentions.
  • Take your grid down (or create a new one) whenever you feel your current grid has served its purpose.
See? Crystal gridding doesn’t have to be super complex or intimidating. In the end, the most important thing is that you put a positive intention out into the world.

Do you use crystal grids? Share your tips for beginners in the comment section!

I Want To Go Exploring And See All The Gems Of The World

In my dreams I would love to travel the world. In reality I am not sure if I ever will. I am not talking about financially, because where there is a will there is a way.  I am talking about how my fears sometimes trample over my need to get out and see all the gems of the world. In October I am going to Cuba with my boyfriend and his family. It will be my fourth trip that wasn't a road trip. It will also be my first trip that wasn't with my family or with Shannon. Not going to lie it adds a little bit to my anxiety.

I am not a terrible flyer, except when it is night time. That is a story for another time.  I am just not sure how to deal with my anxiety in front of people who haven't seen it yet. It is hard when logic gets thrown out the window and I let my emotions get the best of me. My usual tactics when I am in the comfort of my own home aren't necessarily going to be the same when I am away. That is why I was so glad when Shannon suggested doing an adventure themed week  on the blog. It may not be exactly like  the other topics we talk about, but I did learn a lot and have different ideas to handle whatever happens on my trip.

You're probably thinking 'What do you have to be anxious about?'. As much as I love to go exploring and seeing what every town and place has to offer, new places can be intimidating. You don't know where things are or what the culture is like. As much as I want to learn, I don't want to screw it up. Over analyzing? Yeah probably.

However I don't want this post to be focused on the negative. I would much rather focus on the positivity I can bring with me. So I am going to include many of the new age techniques we learned from the past week. I am also going to make sure I pack a journal, my favourite books and my adult colouring book. I will also remember to pack my amethyst, moonstone and aquamarine to help with the flight. I will also remember to give gratitude to God and pray that everything goes smoothly.

I will also remember to enjoy myself. I will never get to relive this exact trip again. I will step back and appreciate everything that is around me. Life is pretty good and I have to remember to appreciate it.

Maybe if this trip goes well I can work my way up to travelling to Europe one day. I would love to go to Athens and see the ruins. Mythology was always a favourite of mine since I was a child. What places do you want to see? Do you think you'll make it there one day or will your anxiety hold you back? Let us know in the comment section below!

How To Give Yourself A Time Out While On Vacation

So fun fact. My first trip I took as  an adult was with Shannon. It was about 6 years ago and we went to Vegas.  It was a trip of a life time. This was back at the beginning of our friendship, so we didn't know each other  like we do now. I think though that it was the trip that brought us closer together.

Now Shannon and  I will both tell you that we are introverts, and we do appreciate some quiet time and time alone.  That can be pretty hard to do when you're in 1 room.  We didn't have any knowledge of meditations, or visualization or anything at that point, however we were able to enjoy some downtime separately, but together.

I believe that making some time for yourself to decompress while on the trip is important. Too many people come home from trips, exhausted and cranky and they just want to be alone after. This is because you are around your travel companions all  the time, and sometimes you just need a break.
Here are some tips to take 5, 10 or 20 mins to yourself:

  1. Wake up with the sun. Most people enjoy sleeping in, especially on vacation. If you can try to wake up with the sun. If you are on a resort on an island, then sit out on the balcony, and watch the wonder that is a sunrise. They are absolutely magical and will help start your day off right.
  2. Bring a book. Books can sometimes be your best travel companion. You can bring one anywhere and just get lost in someone else's story for a bit. It doesn't have to be a work of fiction. Sometimes a self help book read in a different country can help to inspire you and make you realize that you can achieve anything.
  3. Meditate. Ok this you can do anywhere at any time throughout the day. Don't want others to know that you're doing it? Well you can do one of two things. 1- Make an excuse to go back to your room for a moment. Take 5 mins there to sit and visualize serenity and peace. 2- Put a few guided meditations on your ipod. Throw your headphones on and lay back and catch some rays. No one will think you're doing anything, but sunbathing! Remember your sunscreen!
  4.  Find a way to spend some time with your element. Are you a water sign? An air sign? A fire sign? An earth sign? Whatever your sign is, try to spend some time with it. Stick your toes in the sand, sit around a campfire, feel the breeze blow about you or hop into the ocean. Connecting with your element will bring you to a place where you can be happy and connect with yourself for even just a few moments.
  5. Be mindful. While eating or doing an activity, take a moment to look around you. Take in the beauty that is the country around you. Look at the different colours and all the different different things that makes that country great. This world really is a work of work of art, so take a moment and be thankful for being apart of it!

Taking a trip with friends or family doesn't have to be stressful or chaotic. You shouldn't want to kill each other by the end of it. Try one of the above tips to make your trip a little more peaceful. You will be grateful you did!

Staying Inspired During Travel

Every vacation is different. Some leave you awestruck while others are fun and fancy-free. One common issue that travellers have? Feeling uninspired. Sure, you’re having a good time, seeing new things, and exploring the world…but having a good time and feeling inspired are two very different things.

This summer, I will be going on a two and a half week trip with my family. Excited? Absolutely. Nervous? You bet. Being surrounded by people (even my loved ones) non-stop for that length of time will be tough. I am someone who craves alone time, so suddenly, that will be gone. And it is likely that my inspiration will go with it.

Luckily, I have a plan. Here are some sure-fire ways to help you stay inspired on your next trip….

Pay Attention to Sunsets. When you’re travelling, there are always a million things occupying your mind. Whether it is where to go for dinner, which theme park ride to line up for, or what you’ll do the next day…. it’s easy to miss the small stuff. Wherever you are in the world, make time for sunsets. Pay attention to them, appreciate them, and allow yourself to be inspired by them. Simply noticing this natural wonder can make a huge difference.

Pause and Appreciate Small Moments. Speaking of paying attention! There is something to be said for small moments of appreciation. Honesty, they don’t happen as often as they should. To make your next trip the best one yet, be sure to stop and smell the roses. Every now and then, pause, and look around you. What do you see? Smell? Hear? Feel? What stands out to you? What inspires you in this moment? The more observant you become, the easier it will be to experience moments of magic.

Take Lots and Lots of Pictures. Photographs are a great way to get inspired. I’m not talking cute beach selfies (though those are certainly great for social media) but pictures of places, landscapes, or events. Capture these inspired moments with a photo! You can extend the moment of inspiration by looking back at your photos each night before bed. Your inspired state of mind will help you sleep better, boost your mood, and enhance your overall vacation experience.

There are so many ways to stay inspired while travelling. These are just a few ideas to help you get started. Be sure to share your own inspiration tips in the comment section below!

Don't forget your 5 min Check In

So many sights to see, so many foods to eat, so many new experiences to try. It's no wonder that vacations can blow past you at top speed. Sometimes it feels like you blink and your vacation is over. Am I right? It's kind of frustrating when you have been waiting months to to take this trip.

I don't know about you, but when I am travelling I am dealing with a huge range of emotions. Anxiety, excitement, happiness, sadness (when I am going home) and calm. Sometimes I have to do a 5 min check in, in order for me to get my emotions to balance and for me to appreciate everything around me. Here are some ways to check in with yourself to make sure you're getting the most out of your vacation!

  1.  Soak in the energy that Mother Nature is putting out. No matter where you go, nature will be around you one way or another. Take a moment, close your eyes and find a way to connect with nature for just 5 mins. Stick your toes in the sand, walk in the water, put your hand on a tree, do anything that will connect you to something that is much bigger than yourself.
  2. Give yourself an affirmation for the week. Affirmation are fantastic. I use them everyday to remind myself of goals, or to focus on the great things in life. Some affirmations you could use are: "I am grateful for a safe journey, a smooth journey and a comfortable journey." "I am a worldly, fun, experienced, interesting person." "I am joyful when I travel and explore this planet."
  3. Use the power of the moon or sun to your advantage.  The moon and sun are powerful resources and give off so much energy. Use this to your advantage. Lay under the moon light or sun light (with sunscreen of course) and soak it all in for 5 mins. Look around you and see what it is like to look at the moon or sun from a different part of the world. Isn't it fantastic?
  4. Take 5 mins to yourself  to meditate.  If that means the bathroom or somewhere else private go for it. Take 5 mins and allow yourself to meditate for a little bit. That 5 mins to shut down your mind will do wonders for you, especially if you have jet lag.
  5. Carry some of your favourite crystals or stones. When you start feeling overwhelmed take them out and hold them in your hands. Let the power of the crystal take over. You will be a much better traveller after.

There are so many other ways to check in with yourself. What are some of your 5 min check in techniques? Let us know in the comment section below!

New Age Tools For Travel Anxiety

Travel is an essential part of my life. I have always loved to get away from it all and explore new places…. whether it is a day trip, a weekend getaway, or an overseas journey. Yes, there is something thrilling about travel, but it does have its drawbacks. Travel anxiety is something I struggle with. Flying terrifies me, I worry about what is going on back at home, and fear something will derail my perfectly planned itinerary. Thankfully, it is possible to work around this anxiety. Here are a few new age inspired suggestions to help you travel with ease.

Visualization. The mind is powerful. I found this out during a recent flight home from Las Vegas. As the plane shook, lurched, and dropped, I was on the brink of a full-blown panic attack. What did I do? I practised positive visualization. I envisioned the airplane, surrounded in a protective white light.

I focused on the image in my head. I forced myself to believe that white light really was protecting us. Quite frankly, that image was the only thing that kept me semi-sane during that rough flight. If you’re dealing with turbulence, insomnia, or general anxiety brought on by travel…practise positive visualization.

Guided Meditation. This is one of the first new age coping mechanisms I ever tried. There are tons of guided meditations and hypnosis tracks (on both iTunes and YouTube) and some are specifically geared towards travel. The one that really helped me is called “Fear of Flying” and it goes through facts about travelling, flying, and so on.

Look for a meditation or hypnosis track that fills you with a sense of calm. Then add it to your iPod or smart phone before you go anywhere. When you start to feel anxious? Simply press play and let the anxiety disappear.

Crystals. One travel companion you should never leave home without? A small felt bag full of your favourite crystals. Before any vacation, I pack a few of my most-used (and most comforting) pieces, like green aventurine, goldstone, tigers eye, and amethyst. Then I add in any other stones that are calling to me.

Simply pack your chosen pieces into your carry on. Knowing that they are nearby will help you feel better, protected, and anxiety free. Put some thought into the crystals you’ll take…just remember to consider size!

Seeing the world? Learning new things? Travel opens us up to some seriously remarkable experiences. Don’t let fears, worries, and anxieties stop you. Put these new age coping mechanisms to the test.

How do you deal with travel anxiety?

How Does A Taurus Love?

Taurus, the sensual lover, is a very jealous and possessive sign. They are fully committed and loyal. They not only expect, but demand those qualities in a partner as well. Unfortunately they can be very insensitive to the feelings of others and are not the most affectionate.

Taurus enjoy being in an equal partnership, but do prefer to be the breadwinner in the relationship. They love dates out on the town, but also enjoy cuddling in front of the tv. Netflix and chill anyone? They do not need much emotional reassurance, but they do need a sense of security. Taurus' do not need any chocolates or flowers as an expression of love. They do however have a sense of security when it comes to material things such as a house or a car.

Compromise is sometimes really difficult for this sign, since they are extremely stubborn. They can sometimes sabotage even the best of relationships. Divorce is an unlikely outcome when it comes to Taurus. They will do everything they can to stay married. However if a divorce does occur it is especially difficult for this sign to go through it.

Word to the wise, because Taurus has a terrible temper, do not laugh or make fun of them, especially during an argument. You will lose, and the end result will not be pretty. They also have long memories, so it will be a very long time before they forgive and forget. May the odds be in your favor.

When it comes to sex, compatibility and communication Taurus' best bets are Cancer, Virgo, Capricorn and Pisces. They also make a perfect pair with other Tauruses. Yes, they can be lazy and not make the first move, but they do know the other person's needs and wants quite well. Even though they may be very good together, they do also need to work very hard at keeping themselves out of a rut.  Taurus' will do best when they are not with Leo and Aquarius. These signs are just not compatible with each other, and it takes too much hard work to make it work.

Taurus' may be hard to love, but they are worth it! We hope you enjoyed this week. We definitely did. Join us next week!

The Best Crystals For Taurus

Each and every Zodiac sign has characteristics that make them unique. The Taurus, for instance, is known for being both strong and quiet. It might take them a while to get to know you…but once they do, their caring and dependable nature will win your heart. There are specific crystals that work best with this sign. So, if you are a Taurus, be sure to add these to your collection.

Jade. A stone that is traditionally linked to the Taurus Zodiac sign is Jade. It is a crystal that offers protection (for both your loved ones and your possessions) and creates a sense of harmony. It is also thought to be a stone of luck, blessing whatever it touches. Wearing Jade as a Taurus is a great idea, as it will connect you to the energy of your star sign.

Malachite. This next crystal is also commonly linked to Taurus. Malachite is known for releasing stress and creating balance. This is especially important, as people with this sign can be inflexible and stubborn, causing unwanted stress in their day-to-day lives. This stone is also known for activating all of the Chakras. So, consider keeping your eyes peeled for this one!

Sapphire. Another traditional Taurus stone is Sapphire, which is known as the “Stone of Prosperity.” This works well for the goal-oriented Taurus, drawing joy, enlightenment, and abundance into their lives. It also relates to trust and sincerity. There are many ways to incorporate this crystal into your life. Simply add on a piece of jewellery to connect to this beautiful and positive stone.

Other Crystals for Taurus: There are a couple of other stones that work well with Taurus. A few examples include Amber (which connects you to the natural energies of the earth. Since Taurus is known for being down to earth and grounded, this is significant!) and Dioptase (which supports the heart and boosts compassion).

Are you a Taurus? Which crystals do you work with most?

Taurus and Their Element Earth

Taurus is one of 3 signs that belong to the earth element. Taurus is also known as a fixed sign (more on that in a minute), and symbolizes immediate interaction with  everything that is of a physical nature. Taurus, because it is an earth element, uses its 5 senses to interact with the rest of the  world and they focus on basic needs such as survival and security. They may be known as a sociable sign, but they can survive on their own and need some time to recharge their batteries every once in awhile.

Just like everything else in life, the earth element needs to be balanced, in order to succeed.  If Taurus has a balanced element, then they will be patent, and realistic with good value system. They will finish projects to the very end. Since Taurus can be slow starting sometimes, they can operate at a slower pace, but don't be mistaken, they will be very thorough with their process. Much more thorough than the other elements.  This is because they like  to stay productive and work hard in order to get real, tangible results. Way to go Taurus.

When the element is not in balance, this really affects Taurus tremendously, and their stubbornness really comes to the surface. They also have a tendency to be stuck in a rut, petty and unstable. Not great qualities to have. When this element is unbalanced, the personality of a Taurus is sometimes very toxic unfortunately. They're scattered, and unfocused and their emotions run high and are sometimes irrational. It may be hard to be around a person when their like this, but try not to focus on their flaws, and focus more on their great attributes.

So what does it mean when I say that Taurus has a fixed quality? Well let's focus on the word "fixed". The signs that are fixed, are not comfortable with change. They would like things to stay the same forever. They prefer a strict routine, rather than just doing things on a whim. Sound familar Taurus? Don't look at it as a bad thing. Just because you like order and routine does not mean it is a bad thing. I would certainly want you to be on my team when it comes to projects. At least I know that things would get done, and would get done well.

Well that is Taurus and their element. Do you agree with this? Did we leave anything out? Make sure to come back tomorrow to learn about Taurus and their crystals.

Personality Traits of Taurus

Astrology has always been a part of my life. My parents would read me horoscopes from the newspaper, and growing up, my wall calendar was all about Scorpio. Heck, I used to compare my astrological sign to my celebrity crushes. (To determine whether or not we were compatible, of course!) Needless to say…. astrology week is pretty exciting for me.

Since Taurus goes from April 20th to May 20th, this is the perfect time to dig deeper into the sign. Whether you are a Taurus yourself or know someone who is, there are certain characteristics and personality traits that are common. Generally speaking, a person who is falls under the Taurus Zodiac sign is ambitious, independent, reliable, and practical. They can also be stubborn and possessive at times. Here are some other traits to keep a lookout for….

Positive Characteristics

There are many positive traits that the Taurus possesses. They have an eye for beauty, are generous with time and money, are dependable (making them excellent friends and employees), down to earth, patient, persistent, and goal oriented. Once the Taurus has a set their sights on something specific…they work tirelessly to make it happen.

Negative Characteristics

Like all of the Zodiac signs, there are negative traits associated with the Taurus as well. Think of these as hurdles to overcome! A few examples of this include: being inflexible, materialistic, jealous, and resentful. They can also be lazy, refusing to do anything until they want to do it. (Which ties into their stubborn nature.) To overcome these negative traits, focus your energy on the positive aspects of your personality.

Facts about Taurus:
  • They are known for making and managing money well.
  • Taurus, the bull, is thought to be the stabilizer of the Zodiac.
  • Some celebrities who are Taurus include: Adele, Dwayne Johnson, George Clooney, Tina Fey, and Bono.
  • The Taurus is artistic and creative and many people with this star sign become artists.

Is Taurus your Zodiac sign? Are these characteristics accurate for you?
