YouTube and New Age Media

It used to be that new age was a niche market. You had to really be looking for a specific shop, book, or item, if you wanted to dip your toes into the water. These days? It has never been more accessible. Whether you want to find out your horoscope, learn about chakras, try out a new guided meditation, or even enjoy a reiki healing session…. you can. YouTube is a fantastic resource for anyone looking to find out more. That is actually where my own personal journey began.

What began as a search for help sleeping led to an assortment of guided meditations, then ASMR videos (which you can read more about here), then positive affirmations, then manifestation exercises, then distance reiki healing sessions, and on and on the list goes. Essentially, one thing led to another. My difficulties falling asleep actually wound up opening my eyes to a whole new world – and a whole new way of living.

In my opinion, the accessibility of new age materials is a wonderful thing. It makes it possible for people to learn, discover, and explore topics they may never have come across. It makes information easier to find and share. A simple click of the Related Videos section on YouTube has the potential to change your life. What an amazing idea!

Just in case you were looking for a few suggestions…. here are a few of my personal favourite YouTube videos related to a new age lifestyle.

Gentle Whispering ASMR. There are thousands and thousands of ASMR related channels. However, the most popular is Maria from Gentle Whispering ASMR. Her soft tone and sweet nature make it easy to achieve relaxation and of course, tingles. She also has a number of videos related to crystal therapy, chakras, and meditation.

Neil Cooper. Another great new age media resource is Neil Cooper, a certified Reiki master. His channel has an assortment of personal stories, distance reiki healing sessions, ASMR themed videos, and discussions about life and spirituality. He has inspired me so much to continue on this enlightened path. My favourite video of his is about the after life (which you can see here). It has given me so much comfort during times of anxiety.

Brad Yates. EFT (or emotional freedom techniques, which you can read about here) is dedicated to tapping away emotional blockages in your life. Brad Yates is one of the best there is – covering topics like abundance, gaining closure, loving yourself, and so on.

Doreen Virtue. Of course, you probably know who Doreen Virtue is. She is a huge name in the new age world thanks to her many books, oracle cards, and guided meditations. On her YouTube channel…you can enjoy weekly divine guidance readings to help you make the best choices throughout the week.

RuPaul. I know…you’re likely wondering why RuPaul made this list. He is known for a lot of things (like his groundbreaking career) but new age thinking isn’t typically one of them. Recently, I came across a video of his speech at the annual Drag Con hosted in Los Angeles. His keynote speech was incredible. He spoke of meditation, calling on your angels, and learning to love yourself. It was powerful to say the least.

There are many more examples of new age media on YouTube. This really is just the beginning! Start here, watch some videos, and keep your eyes peeled for any suggestions or recommendations that may pop up.

What new age videos do you watch on YouTube?

The Power of Words

I remember that day all too well. It was a sunny summer afternoon and my mom had brought her old typewriter up from the basement. That was the day I decided to become a writer. By that point, I’d already gone through a dozen or so imaginary professions. (Everything from a basketball player to a ballerina and a super secret spy had floated through my mind.) But those were daydreams more than legitimate career paths.

On that fateful summer day, I was immediately drawn to that old typewriter. I wanted to know how it worked and if I could use it. The next several hours were spent locked away in the dining room, steadily typing my very first short story. It was called, “The Amulet,” and featured a princess who threw a cursed amulet deep into the forest

Though the rest of the details are hazy in my mind, there are a few things I do remember. Like feeling completely alive. I was overwhelmed with passion, excitement, and joy. Everything else faded away and it was just me and my imagination. And once I’d actually finished my story? I felt an enormous sense of pride. That was the moment that I truly discovered the power of words. I had found my calling.

After that fateful summer day, I spent most of my free time writing. Whether I was starting a class newspaper in grade school or achieving an Honours BA in Professional Writing…. words remained an important part of my life. Over the years, they have allowed me to express, dream, and imagine. They continue to fill me with passion and purpose. They feel like home.

What do words mean to you?

Amanda's Favourite Quotes

Quotes can be a powerful tool. They can make you think, uplift you and if you're lucky they can make you a better person. It is funny that just a few simple words can have so much power. I loved the quotes that Shannon chose. Today I want to share some of my favourite quotes from a particular actor: Robin Williams.

With the anniversary of his death coming up in less than two months, I wanted to take a moment to honor him. Even if it's just in a small way. So why did I choose Robin Williams? He may not have been spiritual, but he made a point of trying to make the world a better place with his comedy. It is true that laughter is the best medicine. So today I am thinking outside the box and sharing some of my favourite Robin Williams quotes!

  • "I believe in destiny. There must be a reason that I am as I am. There must be."
  • "You will have bad times, but they will always wake you up to the stuff you weren't paying attention to."
  • "You know what music is? God's little reminder that there's something else besides us in the universe; harmonic connection between all living beings, everywhere, even the stars."
  • "You're only given one little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."
When a man, such as Robin, has a lot to say it is a shame when his life was taken so soon. What words of wisdom would he have imparted on the world?  Is their a particular actor whose quotes you believe can make the world a better place? Let us know in the comment section below!

Shannon’s Favourite Quotes

Everything about this week is exciting. Words, reading, and quotes have always managed to inspire me. In the past, I have bought books dedicated to quotes. The titles of my beauty blog posts and Facebook photo albums are famous quotes. And I even have a Word document full of some of my favourite sayings. Yes, quotes are certainly a noteworthy part of my everyday life.

The hardest part of this post was narrowing down my options. Which quotes were best? What ones did I want to share? With a bit of hard work and decision-making, the list has been narrowed down. So, without further ado, here are a few of my all-time favourite quotes…

“If there is one lesson I've learned lately, it's the importance of telling the universe what you want. If I want something in my life, if I want something in my career, or for my children or in my relationships, I have to tell the universe so it can become a reality…. I have to throw myself into the world, searching for what I want, dreaming of it, and not sitting around doing nothing, waiting for it to land at my feel like some kind of miracle.”
- Ricky Martin

“I believe that we are here for each other, not against each other. Everything comes from an understanding that you are a gift in my life – whoever you are, whatever our differences.”
- John Denver

“Be brave and be patient. Have faith in yourself; trust in the significance of your life and the purpose of your passion. You are strong enough to sit in the space between spaces and allow divine inspiration to shed some light. When you put positive energy and productive effort into the world it will come back to you. Occasionally in ways you might not immediately understand and on a time frame you didn’t expect. Look. Listen. Learn. Stay open. Your destiny is awaiting you.”
- Jillian Michaels

“The point of power is always in the present moment.”
- Louise Hay

“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
- Audrey Hepburn

These are some of the quotes that are inspiring me right now. Be sure to share your own favourites in the comment section below!

Quotes Used As Words Of Wisdom

Quotes are not a new thing. When we hear something we find profound, we will quote the person who said. Gandhi's quote "An eye for an eye will make the whole world go blind" is one of the most popular quotes of all time.

So why are quotes so popular? Sometimes they can be so profound that they teach us life lessons that we either need to be taught or reminded of.  Sometimes we are so focused on ourselves or our problems at hand, that we forget that things will get better or that the world needs a helping hand.

It is no secret that Shannon and I love words in general. We love to read them, write them and find out how people are saying them in quotes. We love to read quotes, analyze them and find ways to connect them to real life events at the moment.

Along with affirmations, here at Cosmic Positivity, we believe that a quote can make the world a better place. By publicising them, we hope that these messages will help someone out there in this big world.

Don't you think that if every person in the world, focused on positive life changing quotes that the world would be safer, kinder and happier? If someone can express a negative thought and have thousands if not millions of people talking about it, why can't a positive thought have the same affect? Just some food for thought.

So the next time you read a positive quote, think about how you can adapt it to your life. You might be surprised with what you can come up with. Make sure to check out Thursday and Friday to find out our favourite quotes!

What do you think of quotes? Do you think they can have an effect on someone? Let us know in the comment section below!

3 Reasons to Start a Quotes Journal

It is amazing how effective a good quote can be. Reading an interesting, thought-provoking, or motivational quote is the simplest way to change your state of mind. Having a bad day? Feeling sluggish and tired? Stressed? There is a quote for every feeling, situation, and occasion. Somewhere along the line, I fell in love with quotes. All kinds of quotes! Which is how I started collecting them. There are notebooks of quotes in my office and folders of quotes on my computer. Each one is ready and waiting…. just in case I need a mental pick-me-up.

One way to incorporate quotes into your life is to start a quotes journal. All you need to do is write down your favourites. Then refer to the journal as needed. You can always add to it, organize it, and make it your own. The key is to get inspired. Here are a few other reasons to start a quotes journal of your own….

It Can Help You Achieve a Goal. Sometimes the hardest part of accomplishing something is staying motivated. It is easy to become discouraged and negative. That might have to do with getting a promotion at work or running a 5K. Whatever your goal may be, the road is often long and winding, with missteps and disappointments scattered along the way. A quotes journal can help you stay focused on your goal. Think of it like a mini motivational speech…right at your fingertips!

Quotes Can Boost Your Mood. There are some days that are just awful. You know the ones I’m talking about. When everything seems to go wrong and your mood is down in the dumps. Thankfully, a quotes journal comes in handy on days like this! Open up your book and get inspired. Before long, your mood will improve, you’ll be happier, and ready to transform your day.

It Re-Enforces The Power of Thoughts. Your mind is exceptionally powerful but we often forget that. Our patterns of negative thinking can drag us down or cause us to react uncharacteristically. Which is why it is so important to have a quotes journal within reach. Reading through quotes about life, inspiration, and personal development acts as a reminder. It pushes us to remember that our thoughts are powerful. Since our thoughts are so important, do your best to make them positive.

Something as simple as a quotes journal can make a noticeable difference in the way you see the world. Some days? All you need is a little inspiration (and perspective) to brighten up your day.

Will you start a quotes journal?

Gemini and Their Element

This week has been a fantastic week talking about Geminis. We have gotten to know about their personality traits, who they're compatible with and what kind of crystals work well with them. Today let's talk about their element air.

The first thing you need to know about the air element is the fact that any of the air signs are big communicators. They are driven to communicate and share their thoughts on a regular basis. Geminis are no exception. They almost can not hold back their thoughts ( I am horrible for this).  Geminis have the need for discussions and will talk to anyone who will listen.

Geminis as an air sign, are ideas-people. They love to be creative and to come up with new ideas. Yes, they may not always want to finish the project before moving on to the next one, but that is half the fun. Sometimes, as an air sign, they like to start a project and will rely on others to finish it. Sometimes they don't always like to look at all the steps of the project and they would rather just skip to the end.

Don't worry, a Gemini who is in touch with their air element is very graceful, objective, and sociable.  Their communication skills are  impeccable and can clearly deliver their thoughts smoothly. If the element is unbalanced it can be hard for the Gemini to focus, concentrate and communicate.

Geminis if you need to ground yourself try some of the following steps:
  • Definitely don't miss a meal. Especially breakfast. You don't want to be light headed, and dizzy. It is hard to communicate when that happens.
  • Try to stay away from caffeine.  It really is no good for your brain and it will make your thoughts race faster than your mouth.
  • Take a break when you have read too much information. Sometimes it really does overload your brain. Actually just turn off your phone in general and let yourself unwind.
  • Speaking of unwind, meditate before bed and just relax. If you go to bed right away, you will have racing thoughts and that will do you no good.
  • Nervous? Go for a walk, read a book or try cooking. Find a healthy way to get the nervous energy out of your system.

Thanks for joining us this week for Gemini week! We hoped you enjoyed it as much as we did. If you're a Gemini did you find any of this useful? Let us know in the comment section below!

Compatibility and Gemini

Not every sign is compatible. Certain personality traits and characteristics mean that some Zodiac signs are thick as thieves while others are likely to clash. Whether or not you are compatible with another sign can impact your romantic relationships, friendships, and work life. That makes it especially important to be aware – and find ways to work around any potential roadblocks. Are you a Gemini? Is someone in your life a Gemini? Then pay attention to this compatibility rundown.

Gemini and Aries. When it comes to relationships, Gemini and Aries have a similar energy, curiosity, and passion. However, all of that passion can lead to aggression if both parties are not careful. One of the biggest issues with this pairing is a lack of trust. Aries is jealous and both signs want to be dominant and in control.

Gemini and Taurus. Stubbornness and wilfulness come together when these two signs link. Both signs will want to gain control right off the bat, which can cause tension. However, so long as both the Gemini and Taurus are careful not to behave possessively, they can be a strong match. Be patient, understanding, and stop fighting for dominance.

Gemini and Gemini. There may be a lot going on in this pairing (so many personalities to deal with) but it can lead to a lively and exciting relationship. Gemini’s love to debate with one another, share ideas, and get creative. They make a fantastic team for business. The main thing to remember is to listen!

Gemini and Cancer. While cancer is an emotional sign, Gemini much prefers logic. Though you may have similar interests…the way you approach those interests is dramatically different. The Cancer may feel the need to nurture and care for the restless Gemini, however, this can push the latter away.

Gemini and Leo. This makes for one fantastic friendship! Gemini and Leo are both into culture, are clever, and love to chat about life and the world around them. Want to keep this friendship going strong? Be sure to praise and flatter the Leo. They require constant praise in order to feel loved and respected.

Gemini and Virgo. You are both natural communicators – and have plenty of thoughts, ideas, and opinions to share. Both parties will fall into debates, which is great. Except that you both love to be in control of a situation. Try to avoid seeking dominance and simply enjoy the conversation.

Gemini and Libra. These signs are ultra compatible and this pairing can feel like a match made in heaven. Just be careful when it comes to money (this can be a primary issue between the two signs) and embrace the natural wonder of your relationship.

Gemini and Scorpio. This combination of personality traits can be either really good or really bad. It all depends on how you view it. On one hand, you are both sharp and clever. On the other hand, the mysterious and emotional Scorpio may be too much for you to handle. Do your best to understand one another and everything will work out well!

Gemini and Sagittarius. While these signs may be opposites (Gemini is all about common sense and facts while Sagittarius is about philosophy and consciousness), they have a way of making it work. They bring out the best in one another and will never be bored or restless.

Gemini and Capricorn. There is something to be said for this next pair of Zodiac signs. Though they are quite different, Capricorn is able to ground the scattered Gemini. In a romantic relationship, attraction is often intense – and can cause Gemini to become uncharacteristically jealous.

Gemini and Aquarius. Both of these air signs are compatible, with relationships being light, easy, and fun. They prefer to laugh together, enjoy light conversation, and avoid drama. Just make sure you are both honest with one another to keep things going smoothly day after day.

Gemini and Pisces. These are both dual signs, which can be a good thing. Though there are many hurdles to overcome (like constant mood changes), if both parties can accept the other person for who they truly are, a life full of love and light can be achieved.

Gemini Personality Traits

I have to say being a Gemini is pretty cool. I love it. I really wanted to be the one to talk about Geminis and their personality traits. It is awesome to learn more about your astrological sign. You read certain traits and you're  like "yep that's me". So let's learn more about Gemini's personality traits!

  • Witty. Oh you betcha we're witty. We love a little witty banter and come up with some great one liners so you better watch out.
  • Indecisive. Some people will look at that as a negative. Some might look at it as a positive. We sometimes are concerned that we're not making the best decision for us. So we will go back and forth on options. Some people call it flitty, I prefer to go with indecisive.
  • Inquisitive. Oh boy are Geminis curious. We need to know everything about everything. Sometimes too much information can come to bite us in the ass, especially when it comes to things we shouldn't know.
  • Quirky fashionable. If you're female Gemini take a peak at your wardrobe. You would describe it as quirky? Maybe there is a few pieces in there that are a bit odd or unconventional. That's okay. Embrace the unconventional.
  • Communicative. Yes a Gemini may talk your ear off. We have a lot of information to share and we feel the need to talk to anyone that will listen.
  • Dual personality. There is a reason why this zodiac sign is called the twins. We sometimes have the personalities of two people. One moment we can be bright, happy and charming and in the next moment we can be sullen and want to be left alone.
  • Lack of focus. We may love to start a project, but then sometimes half way through we lose focus and then stop. It is not one of our finer moments that's for sure.
  • Young at heart. Not only do Geminis have a youthful appearance, but they have a childlike spirit to them as well. Like Peter Pan, they never want to grow up.
  • Less than truthful. Okay maybe not less than truthful, but we can definitely bend the truth in our favor.
  • Multitasker- Okay so maybe there is something good that can come out of our lack of focus sometimes. We are big multitaskers, working on several projects at once. This is great for us, since we tend to jump from project to project. At least this way we can go back to the previous project when we are ready to.
Geminis are complex people. There are so many personality traits that make up a Gemini. You may be all of them. You may be some of them. Either way. Embrace it!

What personality traits describe you as a Gemini? Let us know!

The Best Crystals For Gemini

Here it is…our second astrology week on Cosmic Positivity. Our first was all about Taurus (which you can check out here) but this time, we are highlighting Gemini. This is a special one for me, since both my mom and best friend fall under this Zodiac sign. Needless to say, there are a lot of Gemini’s in my life! So, without further ado, here are the best crystals for Gemini.

Agate. Known as the Gemini Sun Stone, agate attracts strength and provides protection to the wearer. It blocks out bad dreams and helps you deal with stress and outside pressures. Gemini’s should wear agate when they are searching for a sense of calm. There are many different types to consider (blue lace agate, for example, will help boost your ability to communicate), so choose one that speaks to you.

Blue Sapphire. Those born under Gemini can be either very talkative or very quiet and nervous, depending on the situation. That makes blue sapphire an important stone to work with. Why? It can help balance your communication skills. Additionally, this stone gives you peace of mind and a feeling of calmness. This healing stone can also aid in learning and boost your psychic abilities.

Citrine. Most Gemini’s are naturally curious and clever…though they may feel bored and restless if something does not interest them. To balance this out, it is important to use citrine. It is a strong manifestation stone that can help you let go of fear and impatience. This stone can also be used to manifest money, boost your willpower, and create a feeling of abundance.

Other Crystals for Gemini: There are many other crystals that work well with the Gemini Zodiac sign. A few examples include apatite (which relates to service, healing, communicating, and balancing energy), chalcedony (it eases self-doubt and brings a feeling of peace and inner reflection), and amber (this stone can help Gemini’s re-charge whenever their energy is running low).

Are you a Gemini? Which crystals do you use most?

I Am Proud To Be A Gemini

For as long as I can remember I have always heard my mom say "oh you are such a Gemini". Sometimes that was a great thing... sometimes not so much. I have also heard through out my life "I don't know which Amanda is going to show up". I guess I am a Gemini through and through.

So when the world became outraged to find out that there suddenly was a new zodiac sign out there, I was right along there with them. This was big news. Everything I knew was turned upside down. Everything that defined me, was suddenly taken away. Something I believed to be 100% true about me, was not who I was anymore. I was mad. I was sad. I was lost.

So what was I? Well according to the early reports I was a Taurus. Ok. That is not so bad. I know I can be stubborn, but also reliable. Something didn't feel right. I still felt connected to Gemini's personality traits. I was still indecisive, inquisitive, witty and about another 10 words to describe a Gemini. What did that mean for me? Maybe I didn't belong to anything. Maybe I was just a lost soul. Not only was that scary, but it was completely depressing. I thought about that awhile. The more I thought about it, the more I got depressed.

Then my mom said something to me that made everything better "that is a load of crap, you have always been a Gemini, and will always be one".  That made me feel a million times better. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I know what and who I am. I am a Gemini and that is all that matters.

Don't worry though. They didn't change the zodiac signs or anything. They just did the math to the discovery of this new zodiac sign, which was originally discovered thousands of years ago by the Babylonians.

So why did I choose this as my personal story? Well I thought it would be a perfect way to get you excited for next week's theme. It is all about Geminis! It also happens to be my birthday next Sunday so I thought that maybe it was the perfect time to talk about this zodiac sign. Happy birthday to all you beautiful Geminis! Remember no matter which zodiac sign is yours own those personality traits with pride. I know I do!

The Colour Purple in Our Lives

Look around this world. There is so many different colours out there. Purple may not be as visible as other colours, but it is out there. It can be in your flowers, on a sign, on a book you're reading. Purple is out there. Purple symbolizes love and spiritual perfection, but also symbolizes passion ans suffering.

Colour Healing
The colour purple when doing colour therapy is meant to nourish and purify the blood. It is used for bladder problems, cramps, insomnia, kidney problems, skin problems and tumours.

Since the crown chakra is purple, if you need to work on balancing that chakra it is beneficial to meditate with purple crystals such as Amethyst.

Purple In Your Home
If you have frequent feelings of insecurity, then don't put violet in your home. If you would like to include purple, try lilac and lavender, but as an accent piece. It helps make the room more luxurious to others.

Supportive Colour
Sometimes you need a bit of colour to help you out. If you are feeling guilty or stressed wrap yourself in a purple blanket, because purple reduces those feelings. It helps you to find peace and unconditional love. If you need to protect yourself from others or are feeling nervous than wearing a piece of Amethyst or wearing purple will help you out. Purple is also the colour of creativity.

Purple Magic
Do you want to enhance your psychic abilities? Try including the colour the next time you meditate with either a candle, rug or crystals.

The colour purple can play an important role in our lives. How do you incorporate it in your life?

Personality Traits and the Colour Purple

Colours are so much more than they appear. Sure, they add a little flair to our everyday lives, but each one is linked to specific meanings and characteristics. Take the colour purple for instance. It has a number of different interpretations. Since it is Purple Week here on Cosmic Positivity, it seems only right to explore them further….

What Purple Means

The colour purple has many possible meanings. It has often been associated with things like royalty, nobility, wealth, and luxury. However, it is also linked to feelings of creativity, deep wisdom, dignity, peace, independence, and magic. This shade can provide you with a sense of personal power and strength.

Personality Traits

If you are drawn to the colour purple (or it is your favourite colour), that indicates that you:
  • Are a sensitive and compassionate person. Your focus is on understanding, supporting, and helping others. You often think about other people before you consider your own needs.
  • Can be sensitive to negative comments or criticisms, but because of your independent streak, you rarely let that show.
  • Draw people to you with your natural charisma, charm, and energy.
  • Tend to be an introverted individual and may appear to be shy…though this is not always the case. You simply carry yourself with a quiet dignity.
  • Are an idealistic person with a vivid imagination. You spend a great deal of time thinking about the future or living in a fantasy world.
  • Have a creative spirit and inspire others to think and act creatively.

How To Add More Purple To Your Life

Does purple call to you? Make you happy? Speak to you in some way? Then it is a good idea to start incorporating it into your life as much as possible. There are a few ways to go about this, including: wearing purple accessories, placing purple crystals around your space (something like amethyst works well), or painting a room in your home.

If purple is not your favourite colour…. don’t worry. There are plenty more colour weeks coming up on Cosmic Positivity. Stay tuned!

Are you drawn to the colour purple?

Purple Crystal Power

Purple can be such a powerful colour, so it is no surprise that purple crystals can be powerful too. They can work really well with the chakras and are a perfect tool to use while doing meditation.  Here are some great purple stones for you to work with!

Amethyst- When people think of a purple crystal Amethyst usually comes to mind. Amethyst is a very common stone that is extremely powerful to protect you. An Amethyst stone has strong healing and cleansing powers. It is a great stone to have during a time of loss, because it works to calm you as well as eases sadness and grief.

Charoite- This stone is known as a stone of transformation. It helps you to overcome fear and it helps to heal deep physical and emotional pain. This crystal works with the heart and crown chakras and helps to stimulate unconditional love.

Danburite- Well  Danburite can come in several colours, it does come in lilac. It is a highly spiritual stone with a pure vibration. This stone can work well with the third eye and crown chakras. If you are making big changes in your life and want to leave the past behind then wear this crystal for peace and serenity.

Fluorite- A piece of purple Fluorite stimulates and works well with the 3rd eye chakra and is good for psychic communication. Fluorite overall is a great meditation stone and it works to clear and stabilize your aura.

Purple Sapphire- Sapphire is a gorgeous stone, but specifically a purple sapphire works to awaken you and calm you during a meditation. It works well with the crown chakra.

There are many more purple crystals out there. Just need to look for them! What purple crystals are in your collection?

Understanding The Crown Chakra

There is something exciting about another colour week. Mostly because it gives me an excuse to share information about Chakras with you all! Since this week Cosmic Positivity is all about the colour purple, it seems only right to talk about the crown. Here is everything you need to know about the seventh Chakra…

What Is The Crown Chakra?

The crown chakra is located at the crown of the head and is all about unity, oneness, and a sense of knowing. It relates to a higher state of consciousness – allowing us to open up to everything beyond our own vision of life. It is typically represented by the colour purple, though it can also be seen as a white light.

If the crown chakra is in balance, we are able to feel a deep sense of peace and a connection with a higher power. Additionally, we will experience clarity, wisdom, and enlightenment.

When this chakra is out of balance, it can cause us to feel cynical or disconnected. It can also lead to over thinking of certain situations and make us closed-minded to topics related to spirituality and the divine.

Crown Chakra Facts

  • The Sanskrit name for the crown chakra is Sahasrana, which means thousand petal.
  • Physical associations include the central nervous system and the cerebral cortex.
  • It is psychologically linked to awareness and understanding.
  • Attachment is a challenge associated with this chakra. So, keep that in mind if you find yourself struggling with attachment issues.
  • Working on your spiritual development can help this chakra.

How to Unblock This Chakra

There are many different ways to work on unblocking this chakra. In order to unlock your truth, happiness, and inner peace…. get inspired. Being in a state of wonder and inspiration (whether you go on a walk or work on a passion project) can open up your crown chakra. Positive affirmations are also helpful, as is visualization, and crystal work.

How do you keep your crown chakra open and unblocked?

Book Review: The Soul Searcher's Handbook

Isn't it fantastic to read a self help book? One that makes you feel empowered, teaches you so much and makes you excited to learn? I get so excited every time I read the Soul Searcher's Handbook. I don't even remember how I found out about the book. It has just been a part of my collection that I can't remember being without it.

This book is not your typical self help book. It teaches you everything you want to know about the new New Age World. With so much information out there on the internet my browser tabs started to look a little crowded and it became overwhelming. I could never remember which articles I read and which ones I still needed to read. This book has everything I wanted to learn about in 238 pages.

This book which is broken down into 3 parts talks about topics such as crystals, aromatherapy, chakras, astrology, numerology and so much more. For a beginner such as myself this was the perfect way to introduce all these topics to me.

The author discusses all these topics, in great detail without leaving the reader confused and overwhelmed. This is fantastic considering I get confused easily. It's a lot of information. My favourite chapters are about astrology and numerology. Both topics I find fascinating and I loved learning about them in this book.

If you're needing a handbook for beginners then this is the book for you. You need this book in your life!

Kate Hudson: Pretty Happy

Celebrity culture has always fascinated me. I am guilty of reading gossip websites, keeping up with the latest movies, and knowing who wore what on the red carpet. Which is exactly why Kate Hudson’s self-help book, “Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love Your Body,” was a must-have for me. It seemed to capture everything I love: celebrities and personal growth. So…. what was it like? Did it meet my high expectations?

Unlike many other self-help books, this was designed to look more like a coffee table book. It is a little larger in size, has a hardcover, gorgeous cover art, and tons of pictures throughout. (If you are a fan of Kate Hudson, you will love it for this reason alone.) It would be easy to assume that this book was nothing more than a bit of A-list fluff. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

“Pretty Happy” is a well-structured book that is visually appealing, helpful, and thought provoking. It is structured into four pillars – with each one dedicated to an area of your life that requires your focus. For example, pillar one is about getting in touch with your body, pillar two is about healthy eating and nutrition, pillar three is all about exercise, and pillar four is related to mindfulness and meditation. This is a well-rounded book that touches on some of the most important aspects of living a healthy and balanced life.

Something that really stood out to me was her stance on body positivity. This book is really about embracing who you are, living a thoughtful life, and being the very best version of yourself. It is uplifting, powerful, and enjoyable to read. By far, this is one of my favourite lifestyle books. It is one that I can see myself reading again and referring to whenever I am going off-track with my health related goals.

Kate Hudson may be known for her work on the big screen…. but “Pretty Happy” has cemented her status as an expert in the lifestyle, self-help, and fitness world.
