Quick and Simple Craft to Add to Your Sacred Space

Arts and crafts are my go to stress reliever. I like to have my little creations around my home. Now that I am going to be moving into my first house shortly, my mind has gone into full decor mode. So many projects to work on. I just wish I could work on all them all at once. That is how excited I am.

One of the projects I am excited about? Finally setting up a proper meditation area. My own sacred space. I am desperately looking around the house trying to find the perfect area to set up my sacred space. It is hard though, because I know not everyone who will walk into my house will appreciate an altar, or my endless books on new age techniques. That being said, I really want an area that will feel safe. I want an area to call my own. I want an area with no judgement.

So the 2nd bedroom of our house is where I will set up my sacred space. I am excited for it and can't wait to move my altar in there. You can see how my altar is laid out right now, in the above picture. I have decided to paint the room lime green, because green is suppose to symbolize life, renewal, harmony, freshness and safety.

I also decide on creating a little something for this room. Something a little small, but I think will hold a lot of energy for me.
I got this little glass turtle on my trip to Vegas. I knew I wanted to incorporate him somehow. I decided to fill a little watering can with rocks, and then decorative stones and put him on top. Why did I choose the turtle? The turtle teaches us to find our own path and to walk down it peacefully.  It also reminds us to take a break in our busy lives. That is something I am constantly working on, so it kind of is a perfect piece to my meditation area.

I intuitively chose 3 types of crystals to lay around him. The Rose Quartz for love and to help any emotional healing I may need. The Tiger's Eye to help bring me courage and Citrine to help manifest and encourage my imagination.

For something that took no time at all to put together, it certainly means a lot to me. What do you have in your sacred space? What did you create? Let us know in the comment section below!

Crystals to Give Your Home Positive Energy

Energy is everything. When you are surrounded by negative energy…everything you think and feel is negative. And of course, when you are surrounded by positive energy, your mood is more likely to be optimistic and upbeat. That is why it is vital that you set your home up for success. Certain crystals can boost positive energy, rid your space of any lingering negativity or resentment, and create a more welcoming environment. Here are a few that will make your home better than ever.

Citrine. Some crystals are just generally good to have around. That aptly describes citrine. This stone boosts feelings of happiness, doesn’t hold onto negative energy, and is thought to bring prosperity to the home. If that wasn’t enough, citrine is thought to help you look at the future with optimism, awaken the higher mind, and improve self-esteem. Make sure you place this somewhere special.

Clear Quartz. Another great crystal to keep around your home is clear quartz. This is thought to be a master healer as it amplifies positive energy, good thoughts, and the effectiveness of other crystals. This also removes negative energy, aids in emotional balance, and cleanses the soul and spirit. It can also help you concentrate better and improve your memory. In short? Everyone in your home will love having this beautiful stone around!

Jade. If your home feels stressful or unhappy, then be sure to add in a little jade. This is thought to promote balance, peace, and wisdom. (Definitely important when you are dealing with many different personalities.) It is also believed to bring good health into the home – along with wealth and generosity. So, place it somewhere special.

Rose Quartz. Don’t forget to add rose quartz to your home. This is a must, as it brings positive relationships to the forefront. That means everyone in your home will get along and appreciate one another. Yes, this stone boosts harmony, love, and respect. Place it in the bedroom to boost your relationship with a spouse or romantic partner.

Do you have any of these crystals placed around your home? Share any other suggestions you have in the comment section below!

How To Cleanse A Home

Have you ever walked into a house and just knew that the energy was not right? Maybe it felt tense, sad, or just plain negative. Every house holds a story behind closed doors and can hold the energy that the owners put out into the world. The first house that I am moving into next month, holds a lot of negative energy that I do not want near my family.  So what can I do to fix it? Well I can cleanse it!

Before I go into the steps of cleansing a house let's look at two very important definitions:

Cleansing a house- A process or ritual that removes any negative energy in a home.

Smudging- The burning of Sage.

So when should you cleanse your home? There are a few different occasions when you should cleanse your home. When you move into a new home, when an argument has happened in the home, or when any sort of negative event has entered the home. If you have had a large gathering, that is also a good reason to cleanse. Lots of different energy floating in one  area can be a bit overwhelming. If someone is getting over an illness, now would be the time to sage!

So what should you use to cleanse your home? White sage (usually in a bundle), because it is considered sacred, and cleansing. It helps to purify and protect. A bowl to catch any of the sage embers. Last, but not least, a lighter to use on the white sage, and your intentions written on a piece of paper (if you need help remembering them).

Here are the easy steps to follow in order to cleanse your house:

  1. Ground yourself.  This means you are present in the moment and are focused on the task at hand. Take off your shoes and connect yourself with the earth. Picture a white light surrounding you while you're doing this ritual.
  2. Light the sage. Do not let the fire get big. It just needs to be lit for a few seconds. Blow it out quickly. Like incense it will continue to smoulder afterwards.
  3. Set your intentions for each room. Check below for some ideas for your intentions.
  4. Walk around each room. Start in one corner of the room. With the white sage above the bowl, waft the smoke from bottom to top, saying your intentions as you go along. Continue along the room until the entire area is covered. Make sure to start on the right side of the house and move around the house in a counter-clockwise direction.
  5. Make sure you get every corner of the walls and windows. You want to get as much of the area as possible.
  6. The area you cover last should be by your front door. When you are done the inside, make sure you move outside and smudge the outside.
What kind of intentions should you set? Here are some ideas of intentions you can set while cleansing your house.
  • "I cleanse this area of any negative energy left in this house."
  • "I cleanse this room to remove any negativity, and wish to bring love and light into it."
  • "I cleanse, dismiss, and dispel all that is negative in this room."
  • "I wish to bring love and happiness into this space that was once unhappy."
Fire Safety. Like with any open flame, you must be safe above all else!
  • Once the sage bundle is lit, it is important to blow it out. Treat it like incense and let it smoke around the room
  • Make sure there is no draft or air blowing through the room. All windows should be closed so that no embers fly around and catch something on fire.
  • Make sure to hold the bundle above the bowl. This is to let the embers fall into the bowl.
  • Even though sage bundles are not suppose to be extinguished after the smudging (the spirits of the bundle will know when all the negative energy is gone), it is important to keep in eye's view to make sure it goes out properly.

Have you ever smudged a house before? What are your tips and tricks? Let us know in the comment section below!

How to Store Your Spiritual Stuff

It isn’t easy. Making sure each and every item in your home has a designated spot can be a real chore – especially if you want things to be organized. While it may be fairly simple to find a place for your kitchen supplies or hand towels, when it comes to your spiritual stuff, it can be a little more challenging. Where should your oracle cards go? Books? Crystals? Grids? The list goes on and on. Not to worry! These tips will make storage a cinch.

Figure Out What You Have. First thing is first. Take some time to look at everything you have. Put all of your spiritual stuff in one spot so you can assess how much storage space you’ll need, what you have more of, what you want to prioritize, and so on. It’s amazing how quickly we lose sight of what we have…so this step is super important on your path towards organization.

Decide What You’ll Display. Out of everything you have, there are probably a few special, unique, or meaningful items that you will want prominently displayed around your home. For example, a crystal that promotes balance or positive energy, a wall hanging dedicated to the chakras, or your go-to book for home remedies. Put items that are used often (or for a specific purpose, like cleansing) in a place that makes sense and brings you joy.

Choose Your Storage Method. This next step is important. Yes, it is time to make some decisions about how you’ll store everything. Will you dedicate an entire bookshelf to your spiritual items? Or a table? Or a room? Me personally, I keep things in decorative cardboard boxes from the dollar store. There is one for crystals, two for books, one for candles, and one for other miscellaneous items. (This is an ideal solution if your family/roommate/significant other does not know or approve of your spiritual beliefs. It happens.) Decide if you want things neatly tucked away, semi-visible, or out in the open.

These are a few ideas to help you get started - and store your beloved items with thought and care.

How do you store your spiritual stuff?

Positivity Is Power

We are our own worst critics. As women, a sense of judgement is ingrained in us – whether we choose to accept it or not. Some people blame the media. Others point the finger at misogynistic viewpoints. Unrealistic expectations. The idea of a weaker sex. For a long time, this seemed acceptable to me. It was this normal, unspoken thing that happened in the world. As a result? My self-esteem was low, I constantly compared myself to others, and felt undeserving of love and happiness.

It wasn’t until after I had graduated from University that things began to shift. As I discovered more about myself – my true self – my confidence grew. Bit by bit. Slowly but surely. That journey continues to this day. As I focus more on my path, my beliefs, and my goals, my strength as a woman becomes stronger. Though, I confess, it has been difficult to watch the societal changes over the last few years.

For example, gossip websites pit successful women against each other. YouTube comments are loaded with sexist comments, not to mention threats of rape and violence. The President of the United States tweets derogatory things about successful women. Online forums call for boycotts of female-led movies, like Ghostbusters and Wonder Woman. Simply put? It is a scary time to be an outspoken woman.

That is why it is time for us to come together. Though we all have moments where we criticize ourselves and our fellow females…. we can be the change. There are people in this world that want women to fight one another. To be “catty” or “overly emotional.” To conform to their distorted ideas of what it means to be a girl.

It is essential that we treat each other with respect, fight against social injustice, and make this world a beautiful place. I pledge to be kinder to myself and to others…. because positivity is power. Will you join me?

How To Build Up Your Female Friendships and Empower Each Other

I will never forget these words " You look like hell in a hand basket".  This was what was said to me (in front of people) from a person who I used to call a friend.  I had just walked into Walmart, wearing my sweat pants (because of my fresh tattoo), my hair was tussled due to the wicked rain storm and I was sick (getting medicine from Walmart). It really shouldn't matter what I looked like, there was no need for that.

Why do females think it's a good idea to bring each other down? Society does that enough for us. We should be building each other up, rather than tearing each other down. Some how it became socially acceptable to insult each other, and we are suppose to accept it. Maybe even insult back. Then someone goes to far and we all walk away unhappy. What is the point of doing this little dance? Let's talk about what we can do to build up our friendships instead.

  1. Compliment each other. It's really simple. Rather than insulting each other, compliment each other. A simple compliment can go along way. Both parties will walk away feeling better about themselves. It's a win win situation.
  2. Encourage each other. When someone is doing something fantastic in their lives, or going in a new direction, it is great to hear that someone stands behind their decision. That can make all the difference between doubting yourself and feeling confident.
  3. Connect with each other on a regular basis. This is so important. I'm not saying every day. I know that life gets pretty busy sometimes. Checking in with each other needs to be done on both sides of the friendship. One can not make all the effort. That is tough, and also a little annoying. There are two in this friendship, so everyone needs to make an effort.
  4. Do activities together that helps to grow the friendship. No need to sit there and gossip. Why not do an activity together? Go to a movie, try a paint and drink night, or go to a new restaurant together. Doing different activities will help strengthen your friendship and who knows maybe you guys will learn more about each other.
  5. Push each other. Doubting ourselves is natural. That is why we need good friends to help us out of that. We need friends who know us so well to help motivate us and give us the courage to try something new.

All of these tips are simple and easy to implement. So the next time you want to insult your female friendships or want to bring them down a bit, try one of these instead. They will strengthen your friendship and make it better!

What are your tips for building a better friendship? Let us know in the comment section below!

Progress and Pirates of the Caribbean

Earlier this summer, my family and I took a trip to Walt Disney World. During our time there, we went on countless rides…including Pirates of the Caribbean. I remember sitting on the boat as we passed by the infamous auction scene. Honestly? I’d never thought much about it before. It was just part of the ride. Nothing more and nothing less. But maybe I’ve changed since my last visit.

I remember sitting there in the dark, thinking, this isn’t okay. In front of me, animatronic women were being sold off to pirates, with the largest woman being sold “by the pound.” Images of fear, possession, and rape culture crept through my mind, tainting a beloved park ride forever.

Not long after I returned home, it was announced that Pirates of the Caribbean would be undergoing a makeover. The auction scene would be altered – and a female pirate would be introduced. How wonderful! I was over the moon until I read the comment section on the article. There were vile, disgusting, and downright terrifying messages. Ones that confirmed my fears that not only is sexism alive and well…. but it has been paired with aggression and violence.

Reading those comments reminded me why I don’t walk home alone at night, why I always pay attention when I am out and about, and why there is a metal pipe hidden behind my bedroom door. Here’s the thing: those commenters are not up in arms about a ride change. The real issue is that deep down (or not so deep down), those people view women as possessions. Things to be owned. And the changes being made to the ride symbolize that these viewpoints are no longer socially acceptable. That scares the shit out of them. Keeping the ride as-is is nothing more than an excuse to further inequality.

(And for the ones who try to hide their sexism by claiming the line “we wants the redhead” should be kept for ride integrity…where were your outcries when Pirates was re-themed to include Jack Sparrow?)

If this is the reality of the world around us, what are we supposed to do? Sit back quietly and wait for the sexist idiots to die out? No! First of all, remember that you are not powerless. You have a voice and there are things you can do to make a positive change in this world. Here are a few ideas....
  • Do not feed the trolls. Internet trolls, that is. Arguing with them is pointless. It will not make you feel better, it will not change their minds, and it will not add any sort of positivity into this world. Report or block whenever possible.
  • Have educated discussions with people in your life. Talk to friends and family members about your viewpoints - and be open to intelligent debates and discussions.
  • Volunteer, donate, or re-Tweet organizations like Planned Parenthood, women's shelters, and charities for women.
  • Be kind to others whenever possible. Because clearly this world needs some love!
  • Use crystals for positive energy. This can be helpful for both yourself and others. The more love we spread, the better.
What do you think about the changes being made to the ride?

What Wonder Woman and Other Female Superheros Taught Me!

As a kid, and a teenager I was considered one of the boys. Truth be told even now I only have a couple of girlfriends. On my dad's side between my cousins and my brother, there are 6 boys. So it was either play with the boys, or hang out with the adults. I chose the boys.

Even at school, I preferred to run around with the boys. We would play sports, super heroes or power rangers. I always wanted to be the Red Ranger. As a super hero I wanted to be Wolverine (I still do). I never wanted to be the Pink Ranger or Batgirl. To me the male heroes were much more fun to play. They were strong, indestructible and quite frankly no one seemed to be able to take them down. As far as I knew back then anyways.

So why did I not want to be a girl superhero? Well quite frankly I didn't know much about them. Yes they were on tv shows, but they were never front and centred or they didn't last long as a solo superhero. They were in comics, but most of the time they weren't as popular as say Batman or Superman.

This by no way means I was less feminine than my female friends. I still loved to dress up, took dance lessons, organized school dances, and wore makeup. Lots of makeup. I read girly magazines, dated and crushed hard on silly boys. In my mind, I was the right combination of girly and tomboy.

As an adult and dating a comic book "enthusiast", my movie and tv show choices, are mostly about superheroes. I haven't missed a DC or Marvel movie in years, and currently watch 6 superhero shows every season. While most of these shows are focused on the male superhero, we are finally seeing more female superheroes come out and kick some real ass.

Supergirl, Black Widow, and White Canary are just a few superheroes (or Legends in White Canary's case) that are changing what it means to be a female superhero. Each one of these characters have proven that while it is nice to be part of a team, you can also rely on your own strength and abilities to do some serious damage. Bad ass? Absolutely!

This summer another female superhero hit the big screen. Wonder Woman! This was huge for every female out there, especially the young and impressionable. We have never had a female superhero do so fantastic at the box office.  Kudos to DC for giving Wonder Woman her own movie!

So what made her the strongest female role model we have seen in years? She fought to make the world better. She wanted to end the war in order to save mankind. She had no hidden agendas, or ulterior motives. She succeeded, when every man told her basically to let the men handle it. According to them, she had no place taking part in decision making. Unfortunately that was the norm during World War 1.

Most of the heavy hitter superhero movies and shows are shot in a modern setting. Most of them are also very team driven. In these movies, we have seen more modern themes, and scenarios. It is a nice change of pace to remind us how women had to deal with society in the 10s and 20s. It made sure we remember all the real life female superheroes who stood up and helped make positive changes for us present day females. Rosa Parks, Elenor Roosevelt, Margaret Chase Smith, and Margaret Thatcher, are just some of the names we should never forget. It is important for us women to remind us of where we came from, so that we can continue to make changes in the future. Thank you DC and Wonder Woman for reminding me of that.

Where as some other female superheroes have an extremely tough exterior, Wonder Woman showed us that a sense of innocence, a pure heart and good intentions will help you achieve greatness in life. Sometimes we forget that. Sometimes we think that it is easier to fight fire with fire in order to get our voices heard. Maybe it is easier, but is that the message we want to send to the younger generation? Here is what I want to impart to the next generation:

  • Become your own superhero. Learn to rely on your own abilities and skills. You're stronger than you think.
  • Find a cause you're passionate about. Work towards making the world a better place. We all need to leave the world a bit better for the females who come after us.
  • The best defense does not mean you need a strong offense. Just because some one attacks, does not mean you should attack back. Gandhi was a smart man, "An eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind". If you want to make the world a better place, do it with kindness. It may take a little longer, but you will be remembered for positive actions rather than negative.
What do you think about how the female superheroes are being portrayed? What qualities do you want to emulate? Let us know in the comment section below!

The Problem With Comparison

Comparison has always been a part of my life. Whether I was comparing myself to my older sister, girls in my elementary school class, or fictional TV characters…. it just seemed to happen. They were beautiful, cool, and confident. (Everything I felt I would never be.) Plus, there was no way they would ever worry about how they looked or what other people thought of them. Quite simply, I just didn't measure up.

Yes, I have spent my entire life comparing and critiquing. And it all centered around the idea that I was different, other, or not enough. The funny thing is? Most women spend their lives doing the exact same thing. Day in and day out. We endlessly wonder what it would be like to look a certain way or live a brag-worthy life. As if those things would take away all of the self-doubt and fear that lives inside of us. It won't.....because we were raised to compare, compare, compare.

Growing up, we heard our mothers, aunts, and female role models make negative comments about themselves (or other women). We saw supermodels with airbrushed thighs. We watched girls in movies change themselves to become popular. Society has trapped us in a never-ending cycle of negativity. That cycle keeps us feeling small and scared - so we never tap into our true power as strong, beautiful, supportive women.

My advice? Do your best to avoid the comparisons. Whenever a thought like, "I wish I looked like her,” or “I could never pull off that hairstyle,” pops into your head, think OUT! As that thought dissolves, you will be able to focus on what really matters: love and support. Another way to fight back against comparison is to shower yourself with positive affirmations.
  • I love myself.
  • I am beautiful.
  • I am strong.
  • I am confident.
  • I do not compare myself to others.

The more loving you are with yourself....the less likely you are to compare yourself to others. You will already know that you are more than enough. Comparison may be a part of our past but it doesn’t have to be a part of our future. Fight back against this negative conditioning and let your authentic self shine through.

Cancer and Their Element

As a crab, the Cancer sign belongs to the water element. This zodiac sign is the most protective  of the water signs.  It can be very defensive and possessive. Just like a crab, Cancers have a tough exterior shell, but have a soft, vulnerable inside.

Cancers are very concerned with their feelings, as well as the feelings of others. The element of water is also all about feelings and imagination. Cancers, as a water sign, can read people's emotions. This can be both a good and bad thing.  Cancers can spot insults, even when they are not  intended. They can be a little oversensitive at times.

Water signs can be very needy at times. Since Cancers are very nurturing and motherly, they have to work especially hard to maintain their personal boundaries.

Just like looking at an open body of water and seeing an endless world of possibilities, you should look at a Cancer sign and see the same endless possibilities. Cancers are also a cardinal sign, which means that not only are they creative, but also driven and ambitious. They need to nurture their projects, just like they nurture their relationships.

If a water sign is balanced, expect them to be just like water, calm, soft and gentle. They are sensitive to other's feelings and very empathetic. If a water sign is unbalanced and there is an excess of water expect a Cancer to be extremely emotional, apprehensive and sometimes over weight. If the water element is too low a Caner can find it hard to empathise with others. They find it hard to make an emotional connection.

Are you a Cancer sign? Does this describe you? Let us know in the comment section below!

Personality Traits of Cancer

Each and every sign is unique. There are certain characteristics and traits that are commonly related to date of birth. For instance, Cancers are born between June 21st and July 22nd. They tend to be adaptable, loyal, and emotional…. as well as resentful and unforgiving. Here are some of the most common personality traits associated to this astrological sign.

Positive Characteristics

There are a number of positive characteristics that the Cancer possesses. Some of the most notable include their ability to adapt to different situations, their kind-hearted nature, family-oriented personality, loyalty, and strong imaginations. People born under this water sign are often gifted artists, musicians, and writers. They excel in creative fields that allow them to express their emotions. Furthermore, Cancers are often intuitive, dependable, and persistent.

Negative Characteristics

Like all signs, there are also a few not-so-wonderful traits associated with Cancers. For instance, because they tend to be overly emotional, they can be hurt easily. This also makes it difficult for them to let go of past hurts and forgive others. They also have a deep-rooted fear of rejection. Additionally, they tend to hold in anger, but when they get upset enough, watch out. They will explode!

Facts About Cancer

  • The colour associated with this sign is silver.
  • Their likes typically include the home, their family, and their hobbies.
  • Dislikes of this sign include failure and being told what to do.
  • Famous Cancers include Prince William, Selena Gomez, Meryl Streep, and Tom Cruise.

Is this your zodiac sign? Do you know anyone who is a Cancer?

Who Is Better Suited For Cancers?

Who is the most compatible for Cancers? Well let's look at how a Cancer loves first! Cancers are the most motherly of the zodiac. Sometimes this can carry over into a relationship. They are very nurturing, wanting to take care of the other person. They can be clingy and possessive at times, but at least they are loyal!  They need to be needed and are very good at homemaking.

Cancers are very sensitive and light hearted. They can be very sentimental at times and want to focus on their  partner's emotions. This zodiac sign is very in tune with feelings and emotions, sometimes reading too much into them. Be careful in an argument. They may sense an insult, even though you didn't mean to give one.

So who do you belong with? Let's find out!

Cancer and Taurus
Both Cancer and Tauruses love to be intimate. They have a deep understanding of each other and are the heart of family. This couple is most likely to old fashioned, and family oriented. Both craving stability and security, they will focus their energies on the future and having a good home.

Cancer and Aries
While Aries is impatient, Cancers like to slowly romance the other person. This makes for a bad combination and someone will eventually get hurt. Unfortunately for this relationship, both parties can fall into a parent-child like relationship.

Cancer and Cancer
This is a lot of nurturing in one relationship. Sometimes it will be too much. As long as both parties are putting in the effort and keeping each other active, this relationship will go through a lot in life. This relationship can move quickly, since this sign is known as being a nester.

Cancer and Gemini
Both these signs have different views on their emotions and sex drive. That's okay though. If the Gemini is willing to shut up and listen, and the Cancer is willing to give them some space then this couple should do alright. These two signs actually have a lot of similar interests. Books,  bands and tv shows are some things this couple can bond over.

Cancer and Leo
You may think that fire and water don't go together, and you may be right. That being said, out of all the fire and water symbols, this pairing will be the most likely to succeed, but it is rare. These two signs are willing to accept each other's uniqueness, which is very important in a relationship. Just be prepared for some drama. Cancers can have huge mood swings, and Leos can be bossy. Learn and talk to each other when this happens.

Cancer and Virgo
This pairing has the potential to last. You can fall in love with each other instantly. This relationship is a give and take relationship. Virgos are known as the Helper and Cancers are the Nurturers. While your relationship is very sweet and there is a lot of PDA, make sure you guys keep your relationship out of a rut, but going out on the town often.

Cancer and Libra
These two signs have the potential to work out together. That's if they can share their emotions together, without judging the other. While Cancers are ruled by their emotions, Libras are very airy and need to have lots of space. While Libras may try to also give Cancers space, the other sign may think that they are ignoring them, which is not their intention.

Cancer and Scorpio
When this couple is happy together, they can achieve anything. When they are fighting, or their relationship is unbalanced, then someone will get hurt easily and quickly.  Neither one of these signs trust very easily, yet trusts each other completely. Focusing on romance, emotions and deep connections, this power couple is willing to mate for life.

Cancer and Sagittarius
These two signs rarely ever get together, which is a shame. The both have a deep thirst for knowledge and have the same belief system. Unfortunately though, Cancers tend to be home bodies, while Sagittarius wants to explore the world. This leaves Sagittarius usually feeling smothered by Cancers.

Cancer and Capricorn
This couple is certainly a power couple. They both have the same belief systems when it comes to families and values. This couple works well in the home. Emotional Cancers focus on homemaking, while stoic Capricorns focus on providing for the families. In order to make this relationship work, focus on learning each other's emotions and talk to each other.

Cancer and Aquarius
If you are looking for a relationship that is not your "typical" relationship, then this is the one for you. That doesn't mean it will be easy though. You both have to work super hard for it. Just be careful. Cancers are known for affection and intimacy, while Aquarius doesn't need too much affection in their relationship.

Cancer and Pisces
Both water signs, love to deal with emotions and will fall in love with each other quickly. Both of these signs are compassionate and nurturing. As long as the relationship doesn't get into a rut, then this relationship should do just fine. Make sure you go out and see other couples or go on a weekend trip away. This will help your relationship grow.

There you have it! Who do you think you bond with? Does your relationship sound like any of these pairings? Let me know in the comment section below!

The Best Crystals for Cancer

There is something incredible about astrology. It allows us to examine characteristics and personality types that are dominant among each zodiac sign. So, with another astrology week underway, it is time to take a look at Cancer. They are known for being adaptable, loyal, and emotional. Certain crystals are able to promote balance and highlight their many strengths. Here are a few of the most notable….

Lapis Lazuli. The first stone on this list is known for its ties to truth, wisdom, and enlightenment. Lapis Lazuli has a bold blue shade that is not just visually appealing – but powerful. It is thought to strengthen intuition and judgement. This is important, as Cancers tend to make decisions based on their emotions.

Moonstone. Another useful stone for Cancers is moonstone. Since the moon is the ruler of this sign, it only makes sense that this is a must-have. It is a crystal that is perfect for new beginnings, balancing emotions, and reducing stress. This can also boost inspiration and levels of success.

Emerald. This gorgeous green stone symbolises healing and hope. It can boost spiritual growth and the ability to communicate. Emerald works well for Cancers who are dealing with difficult or stressful situations. It is also thought to boost memory and make people more honest.

Citrine. The last crystal on this list is citrine. Not only does it not hold onto negative energy (which is always a good thing), but it can help people born under the Cancer zodiac sign. It opens up the mind to accept or consider other people’s ideas and viewpoints. This is important as they often have difficulty doing this.

There are many useful crystals to choose from, but these are some of the best for Cancers. Be sure to incorporate them into your life!

Which crystals do you reach for most often?

My Female Role Models and How They Have Shaped Me Into Who I Am Today

Every where you look, you are surrounded by females in your life. Mothers, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, girlfriends and besties. Some may say that you can't live with them, but you certainly wouldn't be alive without them.

Today for my personal story I want to talk about the strong female figures in my life. Every one of these ladies has overcome a struggle one way or another and it has made them an even better person today.

My mom
Before I start talking to you about my mom, let me make one thing very clear. I didn't make it easy on her while I was growing up. I challenged her every step of the way. Why? I was strong willed and stubborn. So was she. She had to be though. Having left home at a young age, she had to be tough in order to make it.Working 3 jobs at times, this woman was determined to push forward and to do things on her own. Yes she may have been in her mid 20s and had the support of the family when she had me, she still raised me on her own for the first 5-6 years of my life.  I certainly did not go without, but I also knew that we did not come from money. My mom had a knack for turning other people's junk into our treasure. She also taught me to appreciate the little things and to make the most out of life. She also decided to leave the factory life, to pursue a career in the hospital in her mid 40s. I watched this woman struggle, succeed and graduate from college. An accomplishment the entire family is proud of. My mom has shown me that no matter what stage of life you are in, you can go after what you want and succeed if you want it bad enough.

Nana
If you belonged to the legion in our community, or lived on the street at the cottage you probably knew my nana. She was a force to be reckoned with. My mom has always said that the woman I knew was very different from the woman she was before I born. As the oldest of 5, she had to help raise her siblings, since her parents were out most nights. Having my mom at the age of 16, made her grow up quickly. She tackled that responsibility head on, and even though she has made mistakes along the way she raised 3 great kids, and had a special bond with each of them that I have never seen before. She was an important part of the legion community. She raised money, took part in parades, and became the social chair for years. With her creativity and smart ass comments, you could easily see why she was loved by so many there. As a grandmother, her grandchildren meant everything to her. She never missed a dance competition, baseball game, birthday or holiday. She made everything bigger, better and brighter because she knew memories would last longer then material things. Family came first to her, and she taught me that a little creativity can go a long way to making the world a better place.

Grandma
This is another woman who has been through it all. Really. Born in Poland, she had to flee during the second world war with her family. Since the tender age of three, this woman has travelled to more countries than I could ever dream to, and not for good reasons. Her and her family travelled to South Africa, America and finally to Canada. In the 40s you can just imagine how long that took. The youngest of 6, she was looked after by her brothers mostly, which helped form the tight relationships she's had with them over the years. Married to someone who was not the ideal husband and father, she left him, joined the factory, raised 3 kids and bought a house all on her own. Something that was unheard of in the 70s. This woman worked every day, saved every penny and provided for her family all on her own. Since I was the only granddaughter on that side of the family ( there are 7 boys), she showed me that hard work is not something to shy away from, and you do what you have to do in order to survive.

Auntie Laurie
The oldest of three, Laurie took on the majority of the responsibility growing up. She helped look after her brothers, as well as being dedicated to her studies, in order to get into a good college. She knew what she wanted and she went for it. She showed me since a very young age, that you can be both a career woman, and a mother. Laurie is embarking on a new adventure in her life now, but that has not slowed her down at all and I am proud to call her my aunt.

All of these women have shown me different values, but one thing is for sure. They are all strong women. If I am able to be even half as awesome as they are I might be able to a role model for future generations in my family. Here is to hoping!

Who are your female role models? Have you told them you loved them lately?

Crystals For Personal Power

Sometimes you need a little extra help to remind you of your own personal power. That's where crystals come in to help. Who knew that so much power and energy could come from a little stone! So the next time you need a little reminder of how awesome you are and how kick ass you're going to be, carry around one of these crystals to help boost your power!

  • Chrysocolla- This stone is amazing. It helps build empowerment, and confidence when you need it most. It gives you insight to yourself and gives you the ability to encourage others. This crystal teaches while we want personal power, it is best to earn that through gentleness rather than abrasiveness.
  • Rose quartz- This stone of love, is not only for loving others, but is used to love yourself as well. When we tend to forget that and only look at the negatives about ourselves, this stone can be used to help remind us that we too deserve love.
  •  Carnelian- This stone not only boosts creativity, but delivers ambition, drive and determination. This will allow you to work through any problem or project.
  • Sunstone- This stone helps to nurture yourself. to help you feel alive and that you can seize the day. It also helps to encourage your individuality and originality.
  • Labradorite- This stone will help to bring out the best in you, by helping to reduce the negative sides of our personality. Use this stone when you are on the path to self discovery. You will be surprised at what you learn about yourself.
  • Tigers Eye- Going through a big change in your life? This stone will help you to build on your own power, overcome insecurities and help to boost your energy levels.
  • Rhodonite- This stone is the stone to use in your work life. If you need to boost your self confidence in the work place, then this is the stone to use. Also wear it to remind yourself that you are loved.

Remember, it doesn't matter the clothes you wear, or the stones you keep. You are in charge of your personal power. You deserve greatness in your life and don't let anyone take that away from you. These crystals may help, but you are in charge of your life and your destiny. These crystals will help push you forward, but you can achieve greatness. You have the power to achieve anything you want in life!

Girl Power Inspired Quotes

I remember being both inspired and intimidated by the Spice Girls. Everyone in my grade school class was obsessed with the girl-power pop band – myself included. But unlike everyone else, part of me felt like I couldn’t be a fan. Why? I was nothing like the members of the band. They were outspoken, strong, powerful, brave, and beautiful. Meanwhile, I was shy, awkward, and uncomfortable. What did I know about girl power? It wasn’t until years later that I would truly understand the importance of their message.

See, there have been an awful lot of changes lately. The world around us has become negative and toxic. This makes it harder and harder to see the bright side. This makes it difficult to be a strong woman – full of girl power – without fearing there will be consequences. But other people cannot stop who we are. They cannot silence, still, or ignore. Women are not the enemy. We are strong. We are united. We have girl power on our side.

Here are a few quotes from inspiring women to inspire you today.
  • "To all the little girls who are watching, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams." (Hillary Clinton)
  • “Who run the world? Girls.” (Beyonce)
  • “Women have to harness their power – it’s absolutely true. It’s just learning not to take the first no. And if you can’t go straight ahead, you go around the corner.” (Cher)
  • “I am an example of what is possible when girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by people around them. I was surrounded by extraordinary women in my life who taught me about quiet strength and dignity.” (Michelle Obama)
  • “I am a woman with thoughts and questions and shit to say. I say if I’m beautiful. I say if I’m strong. You will not determine my story – I will.” (Amy Schumer)
  • “To the doubters and naysayers and everyone who gave me hell and said I could not, that I would not or I must not – your resistance made me stronger, made me push harder, made me the fighter that I am today. It made me the woman that I am today. So thank you.” (Madonna)
  • “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.” (Oprah Winfrey)

Do you have a quote that inspires you?

Noteworthy Female Celebrities

From a very young age, we have idolized women who have come across our tv screens, movies, and our stereos. We want to look like them, act like them, and be like them. In today's society, a lot of female celebrities are not just focused on acting or singing. They want to make a name for themselves in the world. They are starting up foundations and charities. They are promoting female positivity. They are making their voices heard. There are many female celebrities I could've picked to mention. I narrowed it down to  5 though, and these are the ones who stand out for me.

I am quite proud of each and every female celebrity who has wanted to be a role model for young adults. The media may love to focus on every little mistake they make, but you know what? They keep trying to set a great example. Here are some noteworthy  female celebrities!

Oprah- Unless you have lived under a rock for the last few decades I am sure you have heard of Oprah Winfrey. She is one of the most influential women in the world. Coming from a childhood filled with poverty and trauma, this woman built her empire from nothing and is now one of the richest women in the world. Oprah not only dedicated her life to her empire, but has also funded several organizations aimed at women such as Women for Women International and Girl Effect.

Meghan Trainor- This singer has focused her songs on body positivity, female empowerment and modern womanhood. From the moment her first major label cd debuted, she became an instant role model for female youth everywhere. Meghan even removed one of her music videos, because someone digitally manipulated her body without it being approved. Meghan has promoted individuality and in an industry where females prefer to wear clothing promoting cleavage and skin, Meghan has preferred to wear clothing that covers her body, but still looks amazing.

Emma Watson- Depending on how old you are, you either know her as Hermoine Granger or Belle. Emma Watson has done a lot in her short life so far. She has been appointed as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, due to her incredible work promoting education for girls especially in countries such as Bangladesh and Zambia. She also went on to launch a campaign called HeForShe, which is targeted at getting men to advocate for gender equality.

Ellen Degeneres- This woman has done something that most people couldn't even dream of doing. She came out in a episode of her tv show. Even though being the first openly gay actress to play an openly gay character was a stepping stone forward for LGBT community, it did also result in her show being cancelled. To know that would be a possibility for your career, that takes a lot of courage and she paved the way for a lot of lesbian actresses. She also uses her powers for good, by helping out different animal organizations. She often also dedicates episodes with celebrity guest stars to helping out different charities and raising money.

Emma Stone- This actress has never shied away from voicing her opinion. She even spoke up in an interview when her then bf, Andrew Garfield, made a sexist comment. The media had a field day when both of them used the paparazzi to help bring awareness to several different organizations. They hid their faces behind signs that read " We just found that there are paparazzi outside the restaurant we were eating in. So... why not take this opportunity to bring attention to organizations that need and deserve it? www.wwo.org www.gildasclubnyc.org. Have a great day!" Simple, easy and effective.

What are some of your favourite female celebrities? Why? How have they made the world a better place? Let us know in the comment section below!

Affirmations for Positivity and Power

Never underestimate the importance of your thoughts. The way we speak to ourselves has an enormous effect on the way we feel – and our lives in general. If you think negative thought after negative thought (whether it is about your physical appearance, your level of success, or if you are constantly judging other people), it becomes a part of who you are. That negativity can take over. It can make it harder for you to love yourself, to interact well with others, and to make your dreams a reality.

Though we all have our moments…. it is important to focus on positivity whenever possible. These affirmations are dedicated to positivity, power, and femininity.

  • It is always safe to be my true self. I am able to express my thoughts and opinions - and share my talents with the world.
  • I am beautiful, inside and out. I love and accept myself exactly the way I am.
  • My strength is not dependent upon another person. I am a powerful, strong, and successful woman all on my own.
  • There are no limitations in my life. I can create anything, do anything, and achieve anything.
  • I am a positive person who does not judge or share negativity. My ability to see the best in others benefits my own life.
  • I release the need to conform to gender stereotypes and unrealistic body ideals.

Repeat these out loud or in your head, whenever you find your thoughts becoming negative or self-destructive. They will help you stay on track and embrace your true power. Remember, you are beautiful, strong, and worthwhile. Always.

Share your own affirmations in the comment section below!
