Why Go Outside at Different Times of Day

Nature is nature, right? Well, not quite. Though a view may be more or less the same from morning to night, there are many unique differences to enjoy. From the hazy morning mist to the bright afternoon sunshine, the soft colours of a sunset, and a dark sky scattered with stars…. there is always something beautiful to discover.

If you normally go out for an evening walk or a morning hike, this is the perfect opportunity to change things up. Get out of your nature rut and experience the many different sides there are to see. A few ways to make the most of the outdoors (at a variety of times) include:

Become a Budding Photographer. Grab your camera or smart phone and spend some time capturing picturesque views. Take photos during the morning one day, the afternoon the next, evening, night, and so on. The whole idea is to stop and smell the roses (either literally or figuratively). Feel free to share your pictures on social media or with friends after you return home. Your adventures in nature might actually inspire someone else to spend time outdoors. What a neat way to pass on some positive energy!

Do Morning and Evening Rituals. Use nature to your advantage by including it in your spiritual rituals. That might mean a meditation (there is nothing like gaining some inner peace while the sun peeks delicately through the sky) or a cleansing ritual with your crystals (read more about cleansing crystals here). Get in touch with nature – morning, noon, and night!

Take Up Running. Download an app, like Runtastic and start tracking your walks and runs through the neighbourhood. It’ll help you stay active, plus, the stunning views and fresh nature scents will motivate you to keep going. Just make sure if you are running at night to have a buddy with you and wear reflective clothing. Safety first, after all.

There are so many reasons to go outside at different times of day. Don’t limit yourself to just one. There is so much to discover if you simply open up your mind…and your schedule.

How To Connect With The Elements In The Summer Time

Fire, water, air, and earth. The four elements. You connect with these elements almost every day and I bet you never even think about it. Take away one of these elements and you would take notice though. Let's stop taking advantage of these elements, and let's connect with them this summer instead.

Fire. It's a beautiful thing. It can be almost mesmerizing to look at. It is great for quiet reflection time.  This is why you will see lots of people lost in thought around a campfire. Yes, campfires can be loud and noisy depending on the crowd. Next time you're around a campfire focus on just the fire for a moment. Be quiet and be still. Just let your thoughts take over. Going to bed that night, you should feel extremely relaxed. It will be glorious.
Please for the love of that is holy, remember fire safety and don't let it get out of control!

Water. Even though this is not my element, I love water. I love when it rains, I  love hot showers and I love to swim. This summer you should be out swimming as much as possible. If you have a cottage take advantage of it and go swimming as much as you can. Swimming in a lake or even a pool can be so relaxing. Take a moment to just let the water surround you. Can't go swimming? That's fine! Try taking a walk in the rain instead. Close your eyes and feel it touch your skin. You will love it!

Air. This element is all around us. In fact we could not live without it.  Take a moment the next time you're taking a walk in nature and take some deep breaths. It will help to calm you! Another idea is to sit in a meadow, at a beach or on a small cliff. Simply sit there and meditate. Close your eyes and feel the wind blow. Air can be a strong and powerful thing!

Earth. The easiest  way to ground yourself is to connect yourself with the earth. Run you toes in the sand, or feel the grass between your  toes. No matter your fancy, take a minute to really appreciate Mother Earth and everything she does for you!

No matter which element you belong to, you can connect with any of these elements. Just take a moment, appreciate it and thank it for being a constant in your life.

Which element do you love to connect with? Is there a specific one? How do you connect with it? Let us know in the comment section below!

The Importance of Being Outside

The outdoors and I never used to get along. Every time I tried to connect with nature…something would happen. Like, an arm full of mosquito bites, a bee sting, or an allergic reaction. (Fun fact: my list of allergies includes trees, moss, and freshly cut grass, among other things.) It made it a little difficult to fall in with the splendid beauty of rolling hills, leafy branches, and warm sunshine. As a result, I much preferred to be safe and sound. Inside.

Somehow, all of that changed. One day, out of nowhere, I fell in love with the outdoors. Maybe it was all of those childhood camping trips catching up to me or perhaps I just stopped to smell the roses. Now, I love to appreciate stunning landscapes and moments of tranquility. Whether I am out and about, walking home, or even watching a video, movie, or TV show that has a lot of nature scenes, I do my best to include the outdoors in my lifestyle. The reason for this is simple: it is vitally important to create a strong bond with the out of doors.

Studies show that people who go outside regularly have increased memory function, are less stressed, and experience reduced inflammation in the body. Even though many of us spend the bulk of our time inside (whether by choice or due to our work commitments) there are plenty of ways to shake things up. A few suggestions include:

Bringing the Outside In. Sometimes, it just isn’t possible to go outdoors. Despite your best intentions, life gets busy and that picturesque day in the park goes by the wayside. Not to worry. Just do what you can to bring the outside in! It will make you happier and more at ease. Hang up a picture of an inspiring scene in nature, light an ocean scented candle, or play a CD with nature sounds while you work.

Meditate In Nature. You can also try incorporating nature into something you already do. For instance, rather than spending your daily meditation inside your home, head into the backyard, onto the balcony, or walk to a nearby park. You may actually find it easier then usual to fall into a meditative state. Give it a try…. it can work wonders for your spirit and state of mind.

Go on a Hike. If you’re looking to add some physical activity to your day, take a hike! Check out a local trail on a Saturday morning and start your weekend off right. There is nothing that a little exercise, nature, and positive energy can’t fix. Grab a good friend or family member and make it a social experience you won't soon forget.

Going outside is more important than you may think. So take time to appreciate nature and deepen your connection to self.

Do you enjoy being outdoors? Why or why not?

How to Work on Your Self Improvement... Do It For You and No One Else

No one should ever convince you that you need to improve yourself, and you definitely should not do it for anyone else but yourself. To many people are willing to point out other people's weaknesses and faults before looking inward to themselves. Unfortunately we listen to them and believe it. Yet it is hard to believe when people compliment us. Funny how that works right?

The only time we should ever look to improve ourselves is when we want to be the best version of ourselves. Sometimes it is hard though, and we don't know where to begin. Here are some tips to help you out!

  • Write down a list of things you like about yourself. Don't you dare look at what you don't like. It's too easy to fall into that trap. Instead just write about what you like. This is the only list you should ever concentrate on. Build off it. Expand off of it and think about other qualities you would like to have. Know what you want, make it a goal and go after it.
  • Adopt a positive frame of mind. There is too much negativity in the world. Why do you need to add to it? Instead of focusing on the negative all the time and letting it consume you, look at things from a different point of view.
  • Try different activities. Feel like you're in a rut? Try pushing your boundaries and do a new activity. I went beyond my limits this year and tried blogging. I never thought it was for me. Here I am 6 months later and loving it! You may think that something is not for you, but you will never know unless you try.
  • Write a list of 101 things to do in a 1001 days. This is a great list. Write down everything you want to accomplish in the next 1001 days. It's sort of a bucket list. You may not accomplish everything on the list, but that is not the point. It's about pushing yourself to do something. Anything. Put some of the craziest things on your list and see what happens!
  • Look at the people you surround yourself with. Are these the people who are helping you become your best self? Are they tearing you down or building you up? Are you doing the same? Make sure you give as much as you take. All relationships should be balanced, and no one should feel less in a relationship.

These are just a few ways you can work on self improvement. What are some of your favourite ways to work on self improvement? Please let us know in the comment section below!

Shannon’s Goals

I have always been someone who likes to set goals. They are a great way to stay motivated and think about what you really want to accomplish. Over the years, I have set many goals for myself. Though not all of them have come to fruition…. I don’t regret setting them. They are a great motivator for me to keep going and do better!

On that note, Amanda and I wanted to spend a little time sharing some of our goals with you all. A few relate to our personal lives while others have to do with our blog. I hope they inspire you to set a few of your own this summer.

Personal Goals. Recently, I’ve been looking back at the goals and resolutions that I sent for myself at the start of the New Year. Honestly, I am amazed at how many of them I have managed to work on, complete, or begin over the last six months. A few that I am still working on include: continuing my personal growth, reading about angel therapy, finishing the short story I’ve been working on, working out regularly, buying less and appreciating more, and getting organized.

Blog Goals. One thing you may not know about me is that in addition to writing for Cosmic Positivity, I run my own blog related to fashion and beauty. (I have been posting on there for over six years. It is definitely my passion project.) So there are definitely some goals that I have for both. A few include: reaching 1500 followers on my beauty blog, hitting 10 000 page views on Cosmic Positivity, increasing reader interaction, and pushing myself creatively. I also really want us to create a space here where beginners can learn, grow, and thrive.

The best way to make your goals a reality is to set realistic ones and work hard to make them happen. You can do it!

What are some of your goals? How often do you check in with them?

Amanda's Goals

Lately I am tired of the word goals. I am usually very ambitious. I set goals and I normally achieve them. With everything that is going on with my life right now I feel more like I am drowning, rather than thriving. So I decided to look at this blog and my own personal blog differently. I am all about creating the life you deserve. So I needed to sit back and think about what I hope I/we would create for these blogs.

So first I need to decide what is the end game? What did I/we hope to achieve overall? For my personal blog, it was never about just blogging. I want to get my ideas, crafts and recipes on Pinterest. Now that goal has grown and I want to expand into Etsy.

The goal for Cosmic Positivity has always been simple for us.  This was a safe haven for us to learn, and to help other beginners start and grow on their own path. I hope it never changes. Sometimes people don't have the openness in their relationships to talk about topics that interest them such as crystals and chakras. We always wanted to provide a place here for them.

So I kept things simple for this blog. I broke things down into 3 categories. Here is what we're hoping to create and how:

  1. A home to help beginners. Everyone starts at the beginning. It's the only way you can learn. We're still learning a lot on a number of different topics. Some people have helped us move forward with our knowledge and we would like to pay it forward to others. How? We have talked about eventually creating ebooks, a beginner's kit as well as some other ideas. We want to help other beginners expand on their journey.
  2. A sense of community. We want to invite everyone, not just the beginners. Our niche is not as popular as a lot of other niches. We want to talk to others who write on similar topics. We have made some great friends so far, but are hoping to grow our circle of friends. Our tribe if you will.  One project I know Shannon is super excited for, is one day starting our Youtube channel. It will be a great way to expand and meet more people. Social media also has helped us to meet others. We do plan on expanding on social media. It's just one step at a time.
  3. A library of resources at your finger tips. Before we even dip our toe in the pool of ebook writing, we have talked about working on some PDF files. This way people can have the resources they need at their finger tips. There is a lot of information out there, and sometimes it can be confusing. Hopefully we can solve that problem. At the very least, simplify it a little bit.

Looking at this list makes me very excited about what's to come in the next year to year and a half. We have a lot of big dreams for this blog, and I am really glad we are taking the necessary steps towards them.

As for myself, I have a few things I want to work on. My new year's resolutions are not coming along as much as I would like. That's because at that time I did not even have these blogs on my radar. Now that we've got a good basis, I think it is time for me to focus on getting some of my goals underway.

The good thing about goals, is that you can start them at any time. You don't need to wait for New Years or your birthday to make one. Start today! Also make sure you celebrate them as well. That is equally as important!

Do you like to make goals? What kind of goals do you enjoy making? Let us know in the comment section below!

Never Stop Growing and Changing

One of my favourite things to do is go back and read my old writing. If I am lucky, it will make me absolutely cringe. Though that may sound strange…. I always thought of this as a mark of progress. Confused? Think of it this way. If my old writing wasn’t up-to-par with my current writing, that meant I was getting better. And that is what I want to keep happening in my life. I want to grow, change, and become better with every single day that passes.

Recently, I decided to look through some old articles I’d written. They weren’t bad or anything like that, but as I read through them, I knew that I could do better. (Which excited me.) Right then and there, I decided to re-write some of them to bring them up to my current standards. It was definitely an exciting concept!

Here’s the thing. You don’t need to be a writer to mark this type of growth or improvement in your life. Just take some time to think about where you are now. Compare how you look, feel, your friends, what you do, and your interests to those things five years ago. Seven years ago. Ten years ago. How are you different? You will likely be surprised at how much you have grown during that time.

If you can’t quite remember how you were, dig into your past a bit! Read old Facebook messages, look through photographs, read diary entries (or LiveJournal entries), talk to an old friend, or reminisce with family members. Immerse yourself in what was for a little while. It will highlight all of the amazing changes you have gone through over the years.

Once you have done that? Take some time to recognize that change, embrace it, and be proud of it. Every time you grow, you become stronger, better, more focused, and closer to achieving your goals. Do what you can to slow down and look back. It will actually help you move forward.

Self-Help Is Powerful

My earliest introduction to the idea of self-help was “Bridget Jones’s Diary.” The book outlined the many, many personal improvement books that lined her shelves – and she was still a mess. No wonder I was a little leery of the concept. Years later, self-help crept into my own life, bit by bit.

At first, it was an article in a magazine about becoming your best self. Then it was a workout video with motivational messages throughout. Eventually, it was books, blogs, and videos. Somehow, it just became a part of my everyday life…and I started to feel better about myself. Stronger. More confident. Huh! Maybe there was something to this genre after all.

Honestly, I think that is the whole point of self-help. It’s not about magically becoming perfect (because there is no such thing) but it is about feeling better, growing, learning, and improving. As human beings…that is all we can really hope for. For me, self-help tools have allowed me to focus on my goals, push myself forward, and really love who I am. It has helped me learn more about my authentic self and feel safe to share that with the world.

It can for you, too. If that’s what you want, anyway. Say you are a true naysay-er…. it is unlikely any advice or affirmations found in a self-help book are going to make a dent in your armour. If you have an open mind, though? It has the potential to turn your life around. To learn more (or try out a bit of self-help tools for yourself), here are a few recommendations to get you started.

Have you ever read a self-help book? What do you think about the genre?

Who Can Love A Leo?

Leos have a fiery personality and they treat love the same way.  They are romantic, passionate, attentive and loyal. They will make tremendous sacrifices for their partner, but also expect the same in return.  This may include "fighting to the death" for their love. You better be prepared to do the same.

Leos are the more dominant in their relationship and want  their partner to be dependent on them. They expect total commitment from their significant other, and want to be adored by everyone.  If you hurt a Leo, don't expect them to get over it quickly. It takes them months to get over any emotional pain you put them through.

So are you compatible with a Leo? Let's find out!

Leo and Gemini
These two are like two little children playing. Geminis are the ones who come up with ideas, and are constantly moving around. The Leo in the relationship will always be the leader. As long as both parties are okay with that,  the relationship should be fine.

Leo and Cancer
One is fire and the other is water, but out of all the fire-water relationships, this one is the most likely to succeed if they can  recognize and embrace each other's uniqueness.  Unfortunately though it is very rare that a Leo and a Cancer will end up together, since these two are complete opposites.

Leo and Leo
This pairing can be explosive, because they are both so hot headed, big egos and naturally bossy. On the other hand, if both parties can show unconditional love and respect, this pairing can have a satisfying relationship and go the distance.

Leo and Sagittarius
Both of  these signs love to live life to the fullest. This helps them become an amazing couple. They enjoy  being passionate and creative with each other and are a great couple to be around. Just make sure not to be to rough with one another.

Leo and Capricorn
This is not a relationship that usually goes the distance. They are argumentative and challenging, ending in some disastrous fights. Both signs are extremely strong willed and will not budge when it comes to their opinions.

Leo and Pisces
This paring is also not one to last. There is generally a lack of trust and security between the two of them. These two handle their emotions very differently. Leos are much more passionate, whereas Pisces will be more passive. Not a good combination.

Leo and Virgo
You will hardly ever see this pairing go the distance.  Virgos generally are shy and cautious. They need to feel protected and secure. Leos are not ones to take care of that.Virgos are very practical and down to earth. They do not appreciate Leos feisty personality.

Leo and Aries
This couple will last for a long time. Both want to create a passionate emotional bond. This will lead to an amazing foundation for a relationship that can move forward. These two have a sexual connection that will not fade over time.

Leo and Libra
This relationship will be both creative and productive, as long as they find a stable balance between respect and responsibility. Trust will be difficult between these two, but on the upside the sex will be amazing!

Leo and Taurus
Leos are known for being loud and passionate , while Taurus is known for being sensual and quiet. This will lead for a very difficult relationship. These two signs have very different values when it comes to relationships and it is hard for them to understand where the other one is coming from.

Leo and Scorpio
This is another relationship that will be difficult. This relationship is known for being very intense and challenging. Neither is willing to adapt and change for the other person.  The problem is that this relationship might hang on longer than it should.

Leo and Aquarius
Another pairing that won't last long. If these two signs get together, it will more than likely end up exploding. Definitely beware. If these two decide to work together against a common goal, anything is possible. Unfortunately though they can't really stop the fighting between each other.

So are you a Leo, or are you dating a Leo? Does this list sound right to you? What's your experience dating a Leo? Let us know in the comment section below!

The Best Crystals For Leo

It is that time again! This week on Cosmic Positivity, we are focusing on all things Leo. When it comes to astrology, there are many traits and characteristics linked to each zodiac sign. Typically, Leos are known for being warm, driven, and action-oriented. When it comes to achieving balance and highlighting their many strengths…crystals can be a huge help. There are many stones linked to this sign, including tiger’s eye, carnelian, and rose quartz, among others. Here is a little bit more about each one.

Tiger’s Eye. One crystal that is a must-have for this sign is Tiger’s Eye. This links you to abundance, making it easier for you to turn your dreams into a reality. It attracts positive things (whether that is money, kindness, or material goods) into your life. If that wasn’t enough, this stone can also be used with the energy of the earth and sun to keep you grounded – yet increase your Vibrational energy.

Carnelian. Something else to look out for is carnelian. It is a wonderful crystal to boost your creative side as well as your own personal power. This increases your confidence and feelings of joy… in order for you to freely share your gifts and talents with the world around you. If you aren’t feeling particularly good about yourself, meditate with a piece of carnelian for the best results.

Rose Quartz. There are many wonderful qualities that Leos have to offer. However, one of their struggles is that they can also hold onto emotional hurts. That is what makes rose quartz such a wonderful crystal to use. It can help you clear out old pains and draw out wounds that are preventing you from moving forward with your life.

Other Crystals for Leo. In addition to the crystals listed above, there are others that can also be beneficial, including: red garnet, adventurine, golden citrine, onyx, and gold.

While there are many beneficial crystals for this sign, these are a few of the most powerful. If you are a Leo (or know someone who is) then be sure to incorporate these stones into your everyday routine.

What crystals have you been using lately?

Leo and Their Element

Leos are a a fire sign. They truly love life and are very active. Like a lion, Leos pounce on life and want to move forward in life.  They jump the gun at times, by acting on a hunch and going through quick thought processes. These signs rely on their intuition and inspiration to get them through life. Sometimes though, they have a tendency to skip steps in their quest to achieve greatness.

Leos are also a fixed sign. This means they are resistant to change. In fact Leos are the least flexible of the fire signs. They want everything to stay the same. Don't look at this as a bad thing. Consistency and strength are important. Leos are extremely loyal.

Just like a fire, sometimes Leos can burn out of control. So if you are close to a Leo, then make sure you help to "tend the embers". Leos will want to be nurtured just like embers do. This way there will always be a spark in them.

Leos can be extremely creative, but also destructive at the same time. Leos are very self sufficient and spontaneous some times. Unfortunately that means that they sometimes forget about other people's feelings. This can be especially true when they are on a mission.  Leos sometimes are selfish, and have an over developed ego. This fiery sign  sometimes has to focus their energy on being compassionate and work towards having a deeper understanding of other people.

If a fire sign is balanced, they are optimistic, spontaneous and affectionate. If the sign is unbalanced, especially if it the sign is excessive, then they can be angry, violent and accident prone. They start too many projects, burn out and don't finish them. If the fire sign is low then they lack drive, and courage and refuse to be creative.

Are you a Leo? Do you feel like this is a proper representation of your sign? Let us know in the comment section below!

Personality Traits of Leo

Warm. Creative. Passionate. Those are just a few different ways to describe the Leo. This fire sign has both its positive and not-so-positive traits, but each one makes up the distinct personality of this zodiac sign. Whether your birthday falls in Leo territory (July 23rd to August 22nd) or you know someone who has the unforgettable roar of the lion, keep reading. These personality traits will shed some serious insight on this astrological sign.

Positive Characteristics. The Leo is known for being a natural born leader. In fact, many people born under this sign go on to have careers where they are in charge or are in the spotlight! Other positive characteristics associated with the Leo include being kind-hearted, optimistic, loyal, generous, and cheerful. They also tend to be energetic and positive…and others tend to gravitate towards them.

Negative Characteristics. In addition to all of those fantastic character traits there are also a few negative ones to consider. Some of the most noteworthy include: the fact that they can be quite headstrong, stubborn, possessive, and impatient. Due to their leadership qualities, they also have a tendency to be arrogant or have a bit of an ego. Being aware of those issues will make it much easier to keep those negative traits in check.

Facts About Leos:
  • The sun rules this sign, with links to colours like gold, yellow, and orange.
  • Lucky numbers associated with Leos are 1, 3, 10, and 19.
  • They tend to be very independent, focusing on their own needs first.
  • Leos love to travel, enjoy bright colours, and having fun.

There you have it! That is a little bit about the Leo. Their dynamic personality makes them a great (and trustworthy) friend, partner, or co-worker. They always know how to have fun, make the most of life, and get things done.

Are you a Leo? Do any of these traits apply to your personality?

Affirmations for Focus

Sometimes a phrase or a word can make a huge difference. When I am having a tough time focusing, I pick an affirmation to help me. Sometimes they work, sometimes my mind just can't shut off. Here are some really great ones that you can try the next time you're meditating!
  • I have tremendous energy and focus for achieving all of my life's goals.
  • I easily focus on my main priorities.
  • I use the power of positive focus to push my mind in a positive direction. When I focus on positive things, they expand into my life. A persistently positive focus creates a consistently positive mind.
  • I am organized and I take the time to stay focused.
  • Always remember, your focus determines your reality.
  • At work my mind is focused and I have clarity and energy in all that I do.
  • Focus on where you want to go, not on what you fear.
  • I focus on what I can do right now.
  • Today I choose to focus only on the next step, not the entire path.
  • My focus is now on me being the best version of me.
  • I always focus on the present positive.
In my new house, I plan on having a white board near the area where I will be mediating. It will have whatever affirmation I decide to go with that day, so that I can focus and reread it over and over. That should help me when I am having a tough time focusing.

Remember that affirmations are not a quick and easy fix. They are meant to help guide you, and remind you that you are on the right path. What are some of your favourite affirmations to help you when you're lacking focus? Let us know in the comment section below!

How to Improve Focus During Meditation

Dedicating your undivided attention to a task? Easier said than done. As much as you may want to be completely focused, we are programmed to do more than one thing at a time. Whether you are driving while carrying on a conversation or working on a big project at work while answering emails and text messages…. multi-tasking is a must these days. As a society, we are always in a go-go-go state. This may be great for productivity but it can also be mentally and emotionally draining.

Before you know it, you start to feel stressed, unhappy, and unable to focus on anything for more than a few minutes at a time. This can be especially troubling when it comes to meditation. There are many notable benefits linked to this practise (like an increased sense of happiness and purpose, lower stress levels, and an overall feeling of balance), and yet it can be difficult for many of us to do.

If you are struggling to make the most of your meditation, don’t worry. Here are some tips to help you improve your focus.

Start Small.  One of my favourite quotes is, “progress not perfection.” Apply this theory to your meditation. Take a moment to remind yourself that you will not go from scattered and unfocused to Zen in a single day. After all, meditation is a practise. It is something you work at day after day. Start small (try meditating for a few minutes a day to begin with, and add more time on as you relax into the process) and see what happens. Patience and persistence will pay off.

Listen to Yourself. There may be the best how-to guide on meditation ever. It could outline every last thing you should do to achieve a successful meditative state, but the reality is that it may not work for you. That is why it is essential that you trust yourself and determine what feels right. For instance, you might want to start off with a guided meditation, set up a relaxing space, light a candle for focus, use crystals, or do an oracle card reading beforehand. Test out different things and see what boosts your focus before, during, and after your meditation.

Try Exercises for Focus. Since we live in a busy society, it has become increasingly difficult for people to focus on one task at a time. (Which means, you are not alone!) Thankfully, there are many exercises that can help you increase your ability to focus. How To Set The Scene To Help You Focus

The day has been hell. Anything and everything that could go wrong did. Now you're finally home and you just want to meditate in order to forget the world. Only problem is that you can't stop thinking about everything. So what can you do to fix that? Well I am glad you asked.  Let's take a look at your meditation area and see if that can help.

Before you start your meditation follow these simple steps. In order to focus and commit yourself to your meditation you need to be in the right frame of mind.

  1. Take a hot shower. Figuratively wash away every bad thing that happened  to you today. The hot water will help you to relax and relieve any tension you are carrying in your shoulders and back.
  2. Turn off your notifications from your phone. You will need 0 distractions. Tell people in your home to give you 10 mins of peace and quiet. Don't even look at Facebook or else the time will be spent else where.
  3. Write it down. If something is seriously weighing on your mind, you know that's where your concentration will be. Instead write it out. It may not entirely get it off your mind, but scribbling it out will make you feel better.
Once you have completed the 3 steps above, it is time to focus on getting your meditation area ready to go. Here are some great tips!
  1. Turn off any bright lights. There is no way you'll meditate properly with a bright light shining in your face. Try candles and low lighting instead.
  2. Use music or guided meditation. These are always helpful. Sometimes silence gives you too much opportunity to think.
  3. Hold a crystal in each hand. By holding something you are subconsciously focusing on not dropping them. Let the power of the crystals wash over you.
  4. Focus on an inanimate object. Try a candle, a crystal, a figure or a picture. Look at the details. See every part of it and let your eyes just relax.
  5. Scents are imperative. Sometimes a good scent will take your worries away. Eucalyptus is one of the perfect scents for stress relief. Try that or any other scent that you feel called to work with it. Breathe that  in!

Yes, it can be sometimes difficult to turn off your mind. It can be done though. Keep some of these tips in mind the next time you need help creating a mediation area that will help you to focus and forget your troubles. You'll feel a lot better after!

Crystals For Focus

It is astounding how many uses there are for crystals. Some work well for achieving balance, others for clearing away negativity or strengthening relationships, and a few for releasing old fears and moving forward. It seems there is a crystal for just about every emotion, ailment, and situation! They can be a wonderful addition to your day – especially if there is something specific you want to work on.

When it comes to focus, there are a number of crystals that can be of use. These are a few examples that can help you stay sharp and on task….

Amethyst. If you have wanted to add a new crystal to your collection lately, choose amethyst. It has so many uses, including an increased ability to focus. This works to create a sense of calm and help you achieve a clearer perspective. In turn, this makes it easier for you to focus on the task at hand – instead of your emotions.

Tigers Eye. Another great crystal to help improve your focus is tigers eye. This is a grounding stone that can help boost your ability to concentrate. It also works well at making you feel more confident and reducing feelings of anxiety. If that wasn’t enough, this crystal can also improve your intuition. Be sure to add this into your daily routine…especially when you need a little extra focus.

Clear Quartz. This is a must have if you are looking for a little extra focus on a specific project, either at work or during the school year. It creates a feeling of balance and will clear your mind of any unnecessary thoughts or emotions. Simply putting this on your desk or workspace can make a noticeable difference in your ability to concentrate. Give it a try to see for yourself!

Other Crystals for Focus: In addition to the three crystals listed above, there are a few others that can also be helpful. They include citrine, jade, amber, carnelian, and fluorite.

With the right crystal by your side, it can become easier to focus on what you really want. Add these to your home, office, or anywhere you need that extra boost.

What crystals do you use the most?

The Day I Needed To Rely On Myself

The day I wrote this post I was on the verge of a panic attack. Right there in the middle of my shift I felt like I was going to cry from 6 hrs of chest pain. No one knew, because I was still working. I don't talk much at work anyways, and I had my music playing through my headphones so no one took notice. Still I stood there for 6 hrs wanting to start hyperventilating and rip my heart from my chest. Somehow no one knew.

I move in little over a month and I have a lot to do. Everyone told me that buying a house would be a lot of work. Everyone said it would cost a lot. No one told me that it might get so overwhelming you might not be able to breathe. Turns out no matter how many to do lists I use, in order to keep up with everything, I was going to have this panic attack and apparently it was going to happen at work.

I told 3 different people that I felt like I was drowning. It's hard to say that to someone when they're not near you to help you. I am sure it is equally as hard to hear that and not be able to help. What do you say to someone who says "I feel like I am drowning"? I wouldn't want to be in that person's shoes.

It made me realize something. I can have the greatest support system in the world (which I do), but ultimately I have to rely on myself to get me through the tough times. There are going to be times when someone can't help me and that's okay. I am not writing this to make them feel guilty. I am writing this to remind myself that I am strong and that I can do this. I can get myself through this.

So what did I do to lessen the chest pains? I sat in the change room at work, with my headphones on and my meditation music blasting. I also sat there and wrote a long over due letter. It was therapeutic. I definitely needed it. My anxiety went from an 8 to a 6 by the time I left work and the chest pains were gone.

For anyone who has ever been in a similar situation, I don't want to tell you that you'll get through it. You already know that. The panic attacks subside and your emotions and body start to level out. You may feel exhausted from it, but it's over. What I want to tell you is, you're stronger than you give yourself credit for. You're self sufficient, and have the tools to get through anything. You just need to choose the right tool for you. You know yourself best and ultimately you know what you need to do.

If you have every been in a situation such as this and feel okay to talk about it, let us know in the comment section below. How did you handle it? Any tips you would share?

Crystals In The Summer Time

Can you believe that the summer is half way over? Considering the fact that it rained for most of June (trust me I am not complaining), it does feel like the summer was shorten a little bit. That's okay, I still plan on catching up some sun before Sept 21st.

Some crystals do well in the sun, others do not. We have discussed cleansing your stones which you can check out here. When it comes to charging them and bringing their energy back to 100% there are many methods. Today I want to focus on charging them with the sun's energy. Some stones really thrive with the energy of the sun.  After cleansing and smudging them, you can find a place outside or on a window sill that will give partial shade. Place your stones there and then welcome and thank the sun for giving you it's energy in order to charge your crystals.   Then leave them there for a little bit. There is no set time. Use your intuition. After you are ready to pick up the crystals, feel the energy of your crystal! Doesn't it feel amazing?

Some crystals do not do well in the sun. Make sure to keep them out of it's light. They can fade, become weak or brittle. These stones are Aventurine, Amethyst, Aquamarine,Beryl, Citrine, Kunzite,Sapphire, Fluorite, Rose Quartz, Smokey Quartz, Amber and Opal.

So let's talk about some of the crystals we should carry around this summer!

  • Citrine- This stone carries the power of the sun. It is warming and energizing. It energizes every level of your life and promotes high creativity. A Citrine stone is said to encourage you to live your life to the fullest.  Natural Citrine helps with stamina and energy. This will help if you enjoy doing a lot of activities in the summer time.
  • Sunstone- Named specifically after the sun, this stone brings a allows for a connection to light. It is said that this stone carries the energy of Ra, the sun god. According to lore it is his  energy that brings all life from within the earth. The stone carries the qualities of light, such as warmth, strength and clarity.   It focuses on the regenerative power of the sun, so use it a lot when you're outside. If you are needing a pick me up and to boost your enthusiasm when it is lacking, then this is the stone for you.
  • Tiger's Eye- This crystal focuses on combining both the earth's energy and the sun's energy. This stone has an awesome high vibration, but also works to ground you all at the same time.Another stone to help with creativity, this stone also helps to give you courage and self confidence. So wear this, when you are in a bathing suit, short shorts or a pretty summer dress. You deserve to have confidence!
  • Carnelian- Since the summer time is all about unleashing your creativity, it is a good idea to keep a piece of Carnelian near by.  This stone is all about  keeping you energized and happy.  Since the summer time usually brings out bold colours in both makeup and fashion, pair this stone with it and it will help to make you feel bold and powerful as well. When vacations have left you with little motivation to go back to work, carry this piece and it will help to motivate and take action towards your goals.
  • Labradorite- This powerful stone  is also great for the summer time. It helps your imagination and allows you to be more creative.  This stone is another confidence booster! It helps to also reduce your stress levels and that is what the summer time is all about. Relaxation and stress relief!

No matter the crystal you decide to carry with you, enjoy your summer.  This season is all about taking it easy, enjoying life and  being with friends and family. Make sure you take this time to do all three. Trust me your mind, body and spirit will thank you for it.

What stones are you carrying with you this season? Let us know in the comment section below!

Crystal Jewellery to Add to Your Favourite Summer Looks

Fashion is a big part of my life. I have always been in awe of gorgeous styles, bold colours, and unforgettable prints. Since summer week is fully underway here on Cosmic Positivity, it made sense to combine my love of style with my love of spirituality. Here are a few outfit ideas to show you how to effectively mix crystal jewellery into your favourite summertime looks.

Amethyst Crystal Bracelet and Carefree Summer Style

This first look is dedicated to those laid-back, carefree summer days we all dream of. It puts a fun twist on a classic pairing: denim shorts and a tank top. The shorts are distressed and have an on-trend lace up detail while the tank top is a halter style with a summer festival themed print. For beauty, there is a simple tinted lip balm for a subtle wash of colour on the lips. And then there are the purple accents. To blend that gorgeous amethyst bracelet seamlessly into the look, there is a pair of purple sandals. The colour co-ordination ties it all together!

Citrine Accessories and Colourful Glam Summer Look

A little colour can go a long way. Don't be afraid to get playful and have some fun this season! The second look is all about looking and feeling glamorous - without losing that sense of joy that goes along with the sunny summertime. This outfit features a yellow, green, and blue maxi dress and a pair of simple black flats. The jewellery is all citrine. There is a classic link-style bracelet and a gorgeous pair of citrine drop earrings. This is an elegant (but still easy to wear) outfit that suits both daytime and evening activities.

Tips to Remember:
-         Look for complimentary colours with both your accessories and your wardrobe.
-         Pick one (and only one) statement piece. That way, you won’t have a bunch of bold pieces fighting for attention.
-         Think about the meaning behind the crystals you choose to wear.
-         Listen to your gut when it comes to picking a piece of jewellery. If it feels right, it probably is.

There you have it! Those are just a few ways to incorporate your favourite crystal jewellery into your summer style. Check out your local rock shop or browse an online store to find the perfect piece. Or dig through your collection and see what speaks to you! You are guaranteed to look (and feel) wonderful all season long.

Do you have a favourite piece of jewellery?

Meditations In Summer Weather

I love what each season brings to my town. There is something so beautiful and unique about each season, that I actually look forward to the next one, before the present one is even done. So far this summer I have not been able to take advantage of the gorgeous weather like I wish. Between working and moving, there has not been much time for anything else. That being said, I still want to take any opportunity to meditate outside.

This summer weather, allows for meditation to happen at any time of the day. Whether you are an early bird, late riser, or night owl, there is plenty of opportunity to go out and meditate in gorgeous weather. I am a night owl, and prefer to do my meditations under the stars.

If you are an early riser, take advantage of the gorgeous sunrises. If you can, lay a blanket outside and face the east towards the sunrise. Close your eyes, soak in the sun's energy, listen to the birds, and feel the early morning breeze. The great thing about this time of day, is that there is not a lot of traffic, or noise that will distract you from your meditation. This is a great time to really sit and become with nature. What a great way to start your day!

If you love to go outside mid day to read, relax or sunbathe, then take 5 mins to get a quick meditation in. Put a guided meditation or some meditation music on your ipod. This will help to drown out the rest of the world and allow you to focus on yourself. Focus on your breathing, close your eyes, feel the ground underneath you and just relax. There is nothing wrong with taking 5 mins out for yourself in the middle of the day and you will feel 100% recharged after you're done.

Take advantage of a beautiful sunset and reflect on your day. Take a cup of tea outside, put on some relaxing music, watch the sunset and think about what you're grateful for. It is nice to just in with yourself every day. Some times it can be a really stressful day, and you just need to unwind. Now is the perfect time. Make sure to thank the universe, God, or gods, for everything that is good in your life.

Are you a night owl like me? Then take the time at night under the stars to focus on your meditation. The moon has a lot of energy for you to take in. Now is also a perfect time to charge your crystals.  Each moon phase allows you focus your energies on different meditations.  If you are looking for a simple meditation, then just lay back, and put some meditation music on or listen to nature's sounds. Just lay there and let yourself just be. Sometimes the simplest actions can bring on the biggest results.

So no matter the time of day, get out there and enjoy this beautiful weather. What time of the day do you enjoy meditating? Let us know in the comment section below!

Summer Reads With Substance

One of my goals for the summer was to do more reading for personal and spiritual growth. Though there have been a few setbacks (like coming down with a cold), it is still on my seasonal list of priorities. Since the warmer months tend to make reading super long and dense books a little more challenging…here are some summer reads with substance.

You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero. I know, I know, I have talked about this book before, but there is a reason for that. The comical, no-nonsense approach to life makes this a great read for personal development. Plus, it doesn’t feel heavy-handed or overwhelming. Another option is the follow-up, You Are a Badass at Making Money – which is focused on finances and saving money. With that same straight-shooting attitude that makes this a fabulous (and effective) summer read.

Everyday Wisdom for Success by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. One of my favourite summer reads with substance is this e-book that is downloaded on my cell phone. It cost about $5 and is full of affirmations about work, success, and self-esteem. This is great if you are on the go, commuting to work, on a break, or really any time you are short on time. Read a little or a lot…it doesn’t matter! This book will instantly boost your mood and shift your perceptions on life.

Slim For Life by Jillian Michaels. There are a million weight loss and diet books on the market, but this one is a little bit different. Like the Badass book listed above, this has a definite don’t give me excuses attitude (which is to be expected from a Jillian Michaels books). This book lays out simple but realistic ways to cut back on unnecessary calories and live a more mindful life. It’s not too long, gets right to the point, and will be the perfect addition to your summer season.

These are a few of my suggestions to get you started on your summer reading list. Be sure to share your own book recommendations in the comment section below!
