Personality Traits of Leo

Warm. Creative. Passionate. Those are just a few different ways to describe the Leo. This fire sign has both its positive and not-so-positive traits, but each one makes up the distinct personality of this zodiac sign. Whether your birthday falls in Leo territory (July 23rd to August 22nd) or you know someone who has the unforgettable roar of the lion, keep reading. These personality traits will shed some serious insight on this astrological sign.

Positive Characteristics. The Leo is known for being a natural born leader. In fact, many people born under this sign go on to have careers where they are in charge or are in the spotlight! Other positive characteristics associated with the Leo include being kind-hearted, optimistic, loyal, generous, and cheerful. They also tend to be energetic and positive…and others tend to gravitate towards them.

Negative Characteristics. In addition to all of those fantastic character traits there are also a few negative ones to consider. Some of the most noteworthy include: the fact that they can be quite headstrong, stubborn, possessive, and impatient. Due to their leadership qualities, they also have a tendency to be arrogant or have a bit of an ego. Being aware of those issues will make it much easier to keep those negative traits in check.

Facts About Leos:
  • The sun rules this sign, with links to colours like gold, yellow, and orange.
  • Lucky numbers associated with Leos are 1, 3, 10, and 19.
  • They tend to be very independent, focusing on their own needs first.
  • Leos love to travel, enjoy bright colours, and having fun.

There you have it! That is a little bit about the Leo. Their dynamic personality makes them a great (and trustworthy) friend, partner, or co-worker. They always know how to have fun, make the most of life, and get things done.

Are you a Leo? Do any of these traits apply to your personality?

Affirmations for Focus

Sometimes a phrase or a word can make a huge difference. When I am having a tough time focusing, I pick an affirmation to help me. Sometimes they work, sometimes my mind just can't shut off. Here are some really great ones that you can try the next time you're meditating!
  • I have tremendous energy and focus for achieving all of my life's goals.
  • I easily focus on my main priorities.
  • I use the power of positive focus to push my mind in a positive direction. When I focus on positive things, they expand into my life. A persistently positive focus creates a consistently positive mind.
  • I am organized and I take the time to stay focused.
  • Always remember, your focus determines your reality.
  • At work my mind is focused and I have clarity and energy in all that I do.
  • Focus on where you want to go, not on what you fear.
  • I focus on what I can do right now.
  • Today I choose to focus only on the next step, not the entire path.
  • My focus is now on me being the best version of me.
  • I always focus on the present positive.
In my new house, I plan on having a white board near the area where I will be mediating. It will have whatever affirmation I decide to go with that day, so that I can focus and reread it over and over. That should help me when I am having a tough time focusing.

Remember that affirmations are not a quick and easy fix. They are meant to help guide you, and remind you that you are on the right path. What are some of your favourite affirmations to help you when you're lacking focus? Let us know in the comment section below!

How to Improve Focus During Meditation

Dedicating your undivided attention to a task? Easier said than done. As much as you may want to be completely focused, we are programmed to do more than one thing at a time. Whether you are driving while carrying on a conversation or working on a big project at work while answering emails and text messages…. multi-tasking is a must these days. As a society, we are always in a go-go-go state. This may be great for productivity but it can also be mentally and emotionally draining.

Before you know it, you start to feel stressed, unhappy, and unable to focus on anything for more than a few minutes at a time. This can be especially troubling when it comes to meditation. There are many notable benefits linked to this practise (like an increased sense of happiness and purpose, lower stress levels, and an overall feeling of balance), and yet it can be difficult for many of us to do.

If you are struggling to make the most of your meditation, don’t worry. Here are some tips to help you improve your focus.

Start Small.  One of my favourite quotes is, “progress not perfection.” Apply this theory to your meditation. Take a moment to remind yourself that you will not go from scattered and unfocused to Zen in a single day. After all, meditation is a practise. It is something you work at day after day. Start small (try meditating for a few minutes a day to begin with, and add more time on as you relax into the process) and see what happens. Patience and persistence will pay off.

Listen to Yourself. There may be the best how-to guide on meditation ever. It could outline every last thing you should do to achieve a successful meditative state, but the reality is that it may not work for you. That is why it is essential that you trust yourself and determine what feels right. For instance, you might want to start off with a guided meditation, set up a relaxing space, light a candle for focus, use crystals, or do an oracle card reading beforehand. Test out different things and see what boosts your focus before, during, and after your meditation.

Try Exercises for Focus. Since we live in a busy society, it has become increasingly difficult for people to focus on one task at a time. (Which means, you are not alone!) Thankfully, there are many exercises that can help you increase your ability to focus. Many suggestions, tools, and tricks are online, like this one.  There are also apps dedicated to this specific purpose. Take a look, try out a few exercises, and get ready to increase your focus.

It may not be easy to find your focus during meditation but it is possible. Be patient with yourself, listen to your intuition, and add mental exercises to your day. The results will be noticeable!

How To Set The Scene To Help You Focus

The day has been hell. Anything and everything that could go wrong did. Now you're finally home and you just want to meditate in order to forget the world. Only problem is that you can't stop thinking about everything. So what can you do to fix that? Well I am glad you asked.  Let's take a look at your meditation area and see if that can help.

Before you start your meditation follow these simple steps. In order to focus and commit yourself to your meditation you need to be in the right frame of mind.

  1. Take a hot shower. Figuratively wash away every bad thing that happened  to you today. The hot water will help you to relax and relieve any tension you are carrying in your shoulders and back.
  2. Turn off your notifications from your phone. You will need 0 distractions. Tell people in your home to give you 10 mins of peace and quiet. Don't even look at Facebook or else the time will be spent else where.
  3. Write it down. If something is seriously weighing on your mind, you know that's where your concentration will be. Instead write it out. It may not entirely get it off your mind, but scribbling it out will make you feel better.
Once you have completed the 3 steps above, it is time to focus on getting your meditation area ready to go. Here are some great tips!
  1. Turn off any bright lights. There is no way you'll meditate properly with a bright light shining in your face. Try candles and low lighting instead.
  2. Use music or guided meditation. These are always helpful. Sometimes silence gives you too much opportunity to think.
  3. Hold a crystal in each hand. By holding something you are subconsciously focusing on not dropping them. Let the power of the crystals wash over you.
  4. Focus on an inanimate object. Try a candle, a crystal, a figure or a picture. Look at the details. See every part of it and let your eyes just relax.
  5. Scents are imperative. Sometimes a good scent will take your worries away. Eucalyptus is one of the perfect scents for stress relief. Try that or any other scent that you feel called to work with it. Breathe that  in!

Yes, it can be sometimes difficult to turn off your mind. It can be done though. Keep some of these tips in mind the next time you need help creating a mediation area that will help you to focus and forget your troubles. You'll feel a lot better after!

What are some of your tips on creating a peaceful meditation area? Let us know in the comment section below!

Crystals For Focus

It is astounding how many uses there are for crystals. Some work well for achieving balance, others for clearing away negativity or strengthening relationships, and a few for releasing old fears and moving forward. It seems there is a crystal for just about every emotion, ailment, and situation! They can be a wonderful addition to your day – especially if there is something specific you want to work on.

When it comes to focus, there are a number of crystals that can be of use. These are a few examples that can help you stay sharp and on task….

Amethyst. If you have wanted to add a new crystal to your collection lately, choose amethyst. It has so many uses, including an increased ability to focus. This works to create a sense of calm and help you achieve a clearer perspective. In turn, this makes it easier for you to focus on the task at hand – instead of your emotions.

Tigers Eye. Another great crystal to help improve your focus is tigers eye. This is a grounding stone that can help boost your ability to concentrate. It also works well at making you feel more confident and reducing feelings of anxiety. If that wasn’t enough, this crystal can also improve your intuition. Be sure to add this into your daily routine…especially when you need a little extra focus.

Clear Quartz. This is a must have if you are looking for a little extra focus on a specific project, either at work or during the school year. It creates a feeling of balance and will clear your mind of any unnecessary thoughts or emotions. Simply putting this on your desk or workspace can make a noticeable difference in your ability to concentrate. Give it a try to see for yourself!

Other Crystals for Focus: In addition to the three crystals listed above, there are a few others that can also be helpful. They include citrine, jade, amber, carnelian, and fluorite.

With the right crystal by your side, it can become easier to focus on what you really want. Add these to your home, office, or anywhere you need that extra boost.

What crystals do you use the most?

The Day I Needed To Rely On Myself

The day I wrote this post I was on the verge of a panic attack. Right there in the middle of my shift I felt like I was going to cry from 6 hrs of chest pain. No one knew, because I was still working. I don't talk much at work anyways, and I had my music playing through my headphones so no one took notice. Still I stood there for 6 hrs wanting to start hyperventilating and rip my heart from my chest. Somehow no one knew.

I move in little over a month and I have a lot to do. Everyone told me that buying a house would be a lot of work. Everyone said it would cost a lot. No one told me that it might get so overwhelming you might not be able to breathe. Turns out no matter how many to do lists I use, in order to keep up with everything, I was going to have this panic attack and apparently it was going to happen at work.

I told 3 different people that I felt like I was drowning. It's hard to say that to someone when they're not near you to help you. I am sure it is equally as hard to hear that and not be able to help. What do you say to someone who says "I feel like I am drowning"? I wouldn't want to be in that person's shoes.

It made me realize something. I can have the greatest support system in the world (which I do), but ultimately I have to rely on myself to get me through the tough times. There are going to be times when someone can't help me and that's okay. I am not writing this to make them feel guilty. I am writing this to remind myself that I am strong and that I can do this. I can get myself through this.

So what did I do to lessen the chest pains? I sat in the change room at work, with my headphones on and my meditation music blasting. I also sat there and wrote a long over due letter. It was therapeutic. I definitely needed it. My anxiety went from an 8 to a 6 by the time I left work and the chest pains were gone.

For anyone who has ever been in a similar situation, I don't want to tell you that you'll get through it. You already know that. The panic attacks subside and your emotions and body start to level out. You may feel exhausted from it, but it's over. What I want to tell you is, you're stronger than you give yourself credit for. You're self sufficient, and have the tools to get through anything. You just need to choose the right tool for you. You know yourself best and ultimately you know what you need to do.

If you have every been in a situation such as this and feel okay to talk about it, let us know in the comment section below. How did you handle it? Any tips you would share?

Crystals In The Summer Time

Can you believe that the summer is half way over? Considering the fact that it rained for most of June (trust me I am not complaining), it does feel like the summer was shorten a little bit. That's okay, I still plan on catching up some sun before Sept 21st.

Some crystals do well in the sun, others do not. We have discussed cleansing your stones which you can check out here. When it comes to charging them and bringing their energy back to 100% there are many methods. Today I want to focus on charging them with the sun's energy. Some stones really thrive with the energy of the sun.  After cleansing and smudging them, you can find a place outside or on a window sill that will give partial shade. Place your stones there and then welcome and thank the sun for giving you it's energy in order to charge your crystals.   Then leave them there for a little bit. There is no set time. Use your intuition. After you are ready to pick up the crystals, feel the energy of your crystal! Doesn't it feel amazing?

Some crystals do not do well in the sun. Make sure to keep them out of it's light. They can fade, become weak or brittle. These stones are Aventurine, Amethyst, Aquamarine,Beryl, Citrine, Kunzite,Sapphire, Fluorite, Rose Quartz, Smokey Quartz, Amber and Opal.

So let's talk about some of the crystals we should carry around this summer!

  • Citrine- This stone carries the power of the sun. It is warming and energizing. It energizes every level of your life and promotes high creativity. A Citrine stone is said to encourage you to live your life to the fullest.  Natural Citrine helps with stamina and energy. This will help if you enjoy doing a lot of activities in the summer time.
  • Sunstone- Named specifically after the sun, this stone brings a allows for a connection to light. It is said that this stone carries the energy of Ra, the sun god. According to lore it is his  energy that brings all life from within the earth. The stone carries the qualities of light, such as warmth, strength and clarity.   It focuses on the regenerative power of the sun, so use it a lot when you're outside. If you are needing a pick me up and to boost your enthusiasm when it is lacking, then this is the stone for you.
  • Tiger's Eye- This crystal focuses on combining both the earth's energy and the sun's energy. This stone has an awesome high vibration, but also works to ground you all at the same time.Another stone to help with creativity, this stone also helps to give you courage and self confidence. So wear this, when you are in a bathing suit, short shorts or a pretty summer dress. You deserve to have confidence!
  • Carnelian- Since the summer time is all about unleashing your creativity, it is a good idea to keep a piece of Carnelian near by.  This stone is all about  keeping you energized and happy.  Since the summer time usually brings out bold colours in both makeup and fashion, pair this stone with it and it will help to make you feel bold and powerful as well. When vacations have left you with little motivation to go back to work, carry this piece and it will help to motivate and take action towards your goals.
  • Labradorite- This powerful stone  is also great for the summer time. It helps your imagination and allows you to be more creative.  This stone is another confidence booster! It helps to also reduce your stress levels and that is what the summer time is all about. Relaxation and stress relief!

No matter the crystal you decide to carry with you, enjoy your summer.  This season is all about taking it easy, enjoying life and  being with friends and family. Make sure you take this time to do all three. Trust me your mind, body and spirit will thank you for it.

What stones are you carrying with you this season? Let us know in the comment section below!

Crystal Jewellery to Add to Your Favourite Summer Looks

Fashion is a big part of my life. I have always been in awe of gorgeous styles, bold colours, and unforgettable prints. Since summer week is fully underway here on Cosmic Positivity, it made sense to combine my love of style with my love of spirituality. Here are a few outfit ideas to show you how to effectively mix crystal jewellery into your favourite summertime looks.

Amethyst Crystal Bracelet and Carefree Summer Style

This first look is dedicated to those laid-back, carefree summer days we all dream of. It puts a fun twist on a classic pairing: denim shorts and a tank top. The shorts are distressed and have an on-trend lace up detail while the tank top is a halter style with a summer festival themed print. For beauty, there is a simple tinted lip balm for a subtle wash of colour on the lips. And then there are the purple accents. To blend that gorgeous amethyst bracelet seamlessly into the look, there is a pair of purple sandals. The colour co-ordination ties it all together!

Citrine Accessories and Colourful Glam Summer Look

A little colour can go a long way. Don't be afraid to get playful and have some fun this season! The second look is all about looking and feeling glamorous - without losing that sense of joy that goes along with the sunny summertime. This outfit features a yellow, green, and blue maxi dress and a pair of simple black flats. The jewellery is all citrine. There is a classic link-style bracelet and a gorgeous pair of citrine drop earrings. This is an elegant (but still easy to wear) outfit that suits both daytime and evening activities.

Tips to Remember:
-         Look for complimentary colours with both your accessories and your wardrobe.
-         Pick one (and only one) statement piece. That way, you won’t have a bunch of bold pieces fighting for attention.
-         Think about the meaning behind the crystals you choose to wear.
-         Listen to your gut when it comes to picking a piece of jewellery. If it feels right, it probably is.

There you have it! Those are just a few ways to incorporate your favourite crystal jewellery into your summer style. Check out your local rock shop or browse an online store to find the perfect piece. Or dig through your collection and see what speaks to you! You are guaranteed to look (and feel) wonderful all season long.

Do you have a favourite piece of jewellery?

Meditations In Summer Weather

I love what each season brings to my town. There is something so beautiful and unique about each season, that I actually look forward to the next one, before the present one is even done. So far this summer I have not been able to take advantage of the gorgeous weather like I wish. Between working and moving, there has not been much time for anything else. That being said, I still want to take any opportunity to meditate outside.

This summer weather, allows for meditation to happen at any time of the day. Whether you are an early bird, late riser, or night owl, there is plenty of opportunity to go out and meditate in gorgeous weather. I am a night owl, and prefer to do my meditations under the stars.

If you are an early riser, take advantage of the gorgeous sunrises. If you can, lay a blanket outside and face the east towards the sunrise. Close your eyes, soak in the sun's energy, listen to the birds, and feel the early morning breeze. The great thing about this time of day, is that there is not a lot of traffic, or noise that will distract you from your meditation. This is a great time to really sit and become with nature. What a great way to start your day!

If you love to go outside mid day to read, relax or sunbathe, then take 5 mins to get a quick meditation in. Put a guided meditation or some meditation music on your ipod. This will help to drown out the rest of the world and allow you to focus on yourself. Focus on your breathing, close your eyes, feel the ground underneath you and just relax. There is nothing wrong with taking 5 mins out for yourself in the middle of the day and you will feel 100% recharged after you're done.

Take advantage of a beautiful sunset and reflect on your day. Take a cup of tea outside, put on some relaxing music, watch the sunset and think about what you're grateful for. It is nice to just in with yourself every day. Some times it can be a really stressful day, and you just need to unwind. Now is the perfect time. Make sure to thank the universe, God, or gods, for everything that is good in your life.

Are you a night owl like me? Then take the time at night under the stars to focus on your meditation. The moon has a lot of energy for you to take in. Now is also a perfect time to charge your crystals.  Each moon phase allows you focus your energies on different meditations.  If you are looking for a simple meditation, then just lay back, and put some meditation music on or listen to nature's sounds. Just lay there and let yourself just be. Sometimes the simplest actions can bring on the biggest results.

So no matter the time of day, get out there and enjoy this beautiful weather. What time of the day do you enjoy meditating? Let us know in the comment section below!

Summer Reads With Substance

One of my goals for the summer was to do more reading for personal and spiritual growth. Though there have been a few setbacks (like coming down with a cold), it is still on my seasonal list of priorities. Since the warmer months tend to make reading super long and dense books a little more challenging…here are some summer reads with substance.

You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero. I know, I know, I have talked about this book before, but there is a reason for that. The comical, no-nonsense approach to life makes this a great read for personal development. Plus, it doesn’t feel heavy-handed or overwhelming. Another option is the follow-up, You Are a Badass at Making Money – which is focused on finances and saving money. With that same straight-shooting attitude that makes this a fabulous (and effective) summer read.

Everyday Wisdom for Success by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. One of my favourite summer reads with substance is this e-book that is downloaded on my cell phone. It cost about $5 and is full of affirmations about work, success, and self-esteem. This is great if you are on the go, commuting to work, on a break, or really any time you are short on time. Read a little or a lot…it doesn’t matter! This book will instantly boost your mood and shift your perceptions on life.

Slim For Life by Jillian Michaels. There are a million weight loss and diet books on the market, but this one is a little bit different. Like the Badass book listed above, this has a definite don’t give me excuses attitude (which is to be expected from a Jillian Michaels books). This book lays out simple but realistic ways to cut back on unnecessary calories and live a more mindful life. It’s not too long, gets right to the point, and will be the perfect addition to your summer season.

These are a few of my suggestions to get you started on your summer reading list. Be sure to share your own book recommendations in the comment section below!
